I think a lot of atheists use feminism to attack Muslims when really they laugh at feminists behind closed doors and hold similar biases as Muslim men who are sexist.

What are you leaning here towards my dear? Human beings, both female and male, have walked the path of reunion with the Source of Being. That is whats taught in the Sufi order of Islam(which was founded by women) But anyways, there are 72 sects of Islam, are you making assertions only on "mainstream Islam"? Sex in marriage:
You speak of great assurance with no basis for it, even if the man does not get angry the verse and the hadith obliges the woman to not reject her husband even if she herself does not desire it, angry at him for various reasons, perhaps due to it not being satisfactory. It is basically religious coercive to have sex.


Beating woman:
A woman is physically weaker and it therefore will always be a disadvantage to her, and it goes against basic notion of submissiveness of a woman in Islam to respond in kind. It is not a solution to domestic violence being legal under Islamic law.

Furthermore marriage shouldn't be a fight club, and despite marital vows a person still has a right to have the integrity of their body respected, and it Islam does not recognize this fundamental right when it comes to domestic violence.

Due to muslim minority status the question of imposing religion is out of the question in the West, but
Islam is political system, the law written in the Quran are not just meant to be followed in private but also in public, and it these ideas and how they are practiced that must be challenged.

It is not just a question if YOU want it to be imposed but rather rejecting the very notion that religion can form the basis of government.

I think male atheist who leave islam but still holding sexist views, merely did it to avoid the restrictions and guidlines applied to them.

They remain still eager to apply the sexist notions because the in essence only looked at aspects effecting them, but not their whole belief system and the rational or lack therefore.

Also I think @Apollo is one of the least empathic people I have come across, and this is contributing factor I think.

No, I'm not. The problem is two fold.

The first problem is the ideology espoused from the islamic scriptures that are pro slavery, patriarchal structures, death to apostates/homosexuals ect.

The second is in how Islam is actually practiced by interpreting the islamic scriptures and how that compares to other systems as shown by this study.

Sufi islam may not have a problem with second aspect as it manifest in less stringent and oppressive ways, but the toxic ideas from the Islamic scriptures remains and therefore it deserves sceptical repetition also.

Gender-based discrimination is not an Islamic concept, Islam just adopted some of its core concepts such as male privilege, female submissiveness, guarding female sexuality and monitoring male sexuality for homo tendencies.

These men couldn't follow the standard set by Islam because it actually required a bare minimum of them, but they could follow the sexist notions as they require nothing of them such as doing introspection.
