Especially when the profits flow out of our country

Another comment filled to the brim with hate and ciil.

Learn to say mashallah.

With regards to profits, you are confusing a number of things, taxes and fees are collected 100% by the government. What is shared between Somaliland, UAE and Ethiopia are service charges.

This is the norm in large port operations, DP World owns 90% of Egypt's Sokhna port.

How is my comment filled with hate?

The deal is very bad in my opinion. The port should be a lifeline for our people but it was given away for nothing. Silanyo got a villa in Dubai so everything is ok right?

If you believe the deal is bad, you are either a hater or simply stupid.

Somaliland's government is receiving more income today than when they were the sole operator of a small port. Much bigger countries offered up more shares in their ports than Somaliland did.

The results speak for themselves, whether you like it or not up to you.

The deal is corrupt, money changed hands. You can't deny that.

I look at the long term consequences of the deal. The more Somaliland develops the worse the deal will be. DP Worlds is not in the charity business.

The deal provided the city with much needed investment and the results on the ground attest to this.

No one cares what you look at.

The investment will be limited because of Somalilands poor infrastructure. Sure the trade will go up but nothing will be produced in Somaliland. And even if Somaliland develops it will still lose in the long term because it doesn't own the port. It will have to keep paying Ethiopia and the U.A.E. Just be happy that Silanyo got that dream house he always wanted.

The bulk of the investment is actually related to transhipment of containers. Close sources have confirmed to me that once the Container Terminal is operational, DP World's regional feeder will relocate to Berbera. The Port's sphere of trade will expand to the whole of Middle East and East/North Africa and even to Indian Subcontinent.

Transworld is wholly owned subsidery of DP World and it is its premier feeder to the region.

People need to understand basic port dealings before they ever comment on it :liberaltears:

Mashallah. This is great news. Even Mogadishu doesn't have this.

Hobyo we are also doing well.

Can I ask If UAE can spend Billions of U.S dollars ( I assume) on an upgrade to an existing port then why can't Hargeisa get proper roads like a normal city? Surely a decent road network would work wonders for local commerce instead of an upgraded port?
