Berbera Port Construction Project

What is happening in Berbera will blow minds. Development at a rate never before seen in Somali territory has already been ongoing, but it will now go parabolic.

Having railway access to Adis will equal the playing-field between Berbera and Djibouti. In time, Berbera will potentially surpass Djibouti due to the near-completed Berbera airport. Between air, road and rail, all transport modalities are covered.

The fact that the Ethiopians are willing to go through with it, at a cost of $1.5B, shows just how serious they are about Berbera. Ethiopia is not joking when it says it wants minimum 30% of all its trade to go through Berbera.

Its very interesting that the rail link between Somaliland and Ethiopia will call at Aysha and not Diridhabe or Jigjiga.

It's only concept idea and a proposal. If this does take off I believe a Berbera-jijiga-dire saw should be pushed which then connects to the Djibouti line to Adis Ababa.

Ethiopia does finance some of it's projects like Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam through local crowd funding and selling bonds.Maybe the people of Somaliland can do the same and partially fund it.

It’s because Ethiopia is land-locked and needs access to the sea, by any means necessary.

Can a mod change the title of the thread to Berbera corridor with developing news as the tag.Rather keep all updates on one thread rather than multiple ones.

The port is 95% complete. It will handle boats of upto 480m in Size. To put that into perspective, the world's largest buildings aside from the Burj range around ~500m. The first boat to dock on the new port is 360m. The terminal size is 330,000 SqM and It will be fully operational in 2 months.
