Berbera is gonna be the future capital at this rate 
Berbera will benefit a lot from the competition between China and America (Along with America's allies i.e. UAE, Taiwan, UK etc).
China is going full on with Djibouti spending close to 3 billion dollars with infrastructure.
In any case, it is really good that the global super powers are now in logger heads in our region and Somaliland is riding the crest of it.
Like the Previous Ambassador to Somalia/Somaliland and Mark Rubin have stipulated, the American Military is seriously contemplating on moving to Berbera Port. If that happens, consider other American allies in Djibouti following suite.
That means, Berbera will become the place to be.

Caadi iska dhig abti, why in hell would we want an American base. Become Djibouti 2.0. America got bases everywhere in the region. Berbera should just be commercial port what is wrong with that. Your celebrating the success of a few business men and attributing it to the state.Remember the annual budget is over 200 million dollar yet the gov couldn't commission a project like this that is worth 8 million...
This is no celebration but rather shameful that the government is this incompetent and corrupt.
The main reason is that, they will provide us with military hardware and training. Also, it is good publicity stunt in terms of news coverage.
While Djibouti and Mogadishu are moving to China's sphere of influence. Somaliland needs to solidify with the Allies.
During the World War 1 and 2, Somaliland was part of the Allies led by America and UK. While Somalia was part of the fascist Axis of Evil led by Germany and Italy.

quick question
Can this project provide all the energy needs of the city of Berbera. As far as I know Berbera devours so much electricity because of the dam heat. It’s like an oven. It is so hot.

Without serious investment, the port of Berbera can never compete with the port of Djibouti. Djibouti has a railway connection while Berbera has a single carriageway with one lane. You can already imagine the traffic jams.
The UAE invested in the port of Berbera because it has the potential to make their ports irrelevant.

The issue was never about provision of electricity, this was covered fully even before this project. The issue was that the cost of energy in Berbera was very high, such that it was a huge burden on the everyday man, let alone commercial enterprise.
What makes this project so important is that it will make electricity in Berbera the cheapest of all Somaliland cities. Berbera will be viable for small factories and other productive ventures, and the people of Berbera will get a massively reduced electric bill.

I’ve come to admire the mayor of Berbera. He is an example to all Somali officials. He has transformed that town.
Easily the best Mayor in Somaliland. Berbera has gone through a dramatic overhaul over his tenure.
