Even the Somalis in Djibouti speak Arabic. Many of my Djiboutian family members are fluent in Arabic without ever residing in the gulf

Djibouti is a city state of only 1 million. We learn foreign languages early on to do business and trade. French to do business in Africa and Arabic to do business in the middle east right across the sea from us. All my family members that do business in foreign countries in these two regions learned both French and Arabic as a child. Whilst I was in Djibouti I was being taught Arabic by a teacher who came over my grandma's house at night. Every evening I'd come home and do like an hour of Arabic and quran studies then go eat and sleep or whatever I did like chase my baby goat in my street. Only reason I wasn't being taught French was because I went to a private white American school.

When the Europeans set their feet in our shores we spoke with them in Arabic and the treaty we signed with them was in Arabic
