The Latin script was bad. How do you explain C being pronounced almost like A. Ayn would’ve sufficed and made more sense. No we speak a dumber version of afaan Oromo mixed with Arabic

Latin script is better than Arabic though. Using harakat to represent short vowels instead of actual letters doesn’t make sense for Somali since it is not an Abjad based language

It would’ve been better if we adopted one of the natively developed scripts like Osmanya or the Borame script

In the end they went with the Latin based script because it was cheaper and easier to acquire typewriters that used the Latin script at the time

Somali is actually very complex. The lexicon is larger than even amharic. Our dictionary is longer than theirs. Its just most somalis are very very uneducated and the avg somali spoken isnt even close to what the limits of the language is.

We should've used Somali in osmanya, ge'ez or far wadaad (modified Arabic) and put funds into translating books into af Somali. But yes Somali as the official was the best.

We're officially a bilingual state. A large % of Somalis in Somalia can speak Arabic alongside Somali.

Walahi I feel sorry for Sudan. 4,000 year civilisation in the nile just to call themselves afro Arab because of a bedouin horde that mass migrated into Sudan and took over as a ruling minority.

It's a wonder how Somalis opressed and assimilated all ethnic minorities who came to the peninsula like Indians, Arabs ect.

North Sudan still has non-Arabic languages that are spoken by a small bunch of people.

Idk if this is true anymore. Today I think there are more Somalis back home who know English than know Arabic

Where are you getting these numbers from. There's barley 9% Arabic in af Somali. All arabic words have their Somali equivalent.
