Depends, really. Where I lived the worst Somali people got was some racism by whites (the landlord in my old neighborhood comes to mind) but for the most part but it wasn't too bad. I think a user who lives in San Diego or Minneapolis might give you a clearer answer.

I mean I knew obesity in America was a problem but I didn't think it was THAT bad. Is fast food not as big of an industry in other countries? In some cities here you'll have several McDonald's or several Burger Kings, for example.

Ha! Makes perfect sense. The difference is there are not that many fast food chains here in Sweden, and also the food is expensive, not dirt cheap like in America.

People are very health conscience here overall, you will rarely see an obese swede.

How do you feel about foreign news outlets? All the mainstream American channels seem so... sensationalised and stereotypical. Sometimes it feels like it's straight out of a movie. I sort of got used to it, but when I first really started paying attention to it, it just seemed ridiculous to me. By no means am I implying European media is any more credible though.

The government has now decided to examine the timir offered at masjids to see if there's anyway a Muslim might use them as a bomb. I saw a white man in a fake beard and a thobe that looked like it was made in a Party City store sneak out the back of the masjid with a box of them.

Yeah they're just trying to eradicate them off the face of the earth, no ifs ands or buts.

I am more than aware of the truth about your statements, I was poking fun at them myself. I assumed you were bringing them up in a joking manner as well. I named the dates story as true in particular because obviously a Muslim has not been sent to Gitmo for sneezing, for example. America's got problems, I'd have to be blind to not see them or criticize them.

As for the police shooting, are you referring to Abdirahman Abdi? Because that actually happened in Canada. And Gitmo has had its prisoners decreased from 245 to 41 under Obama, though the amount of Muslims and the oft questionable circumstances by which they were imprisioned are very worrisome. Obama promised to shut it down completely but that didn't come through either, unfortunately. And the issue isn't exactly hospitals, it's health insurance companies refusing to take in people with "preexisting conditions," leaving the very high costs of treatment to the patient. But on the whole you are correct about the hypocrisy that is present in America

In places with a visible Somali population, like Minneapolis, people can usually tell they are Somali. My experience in living in a town without other Somalis has shown that people who are not familiar with them will assume an assortment of classifications, like Indian, Arab, Ethiopian, mixed race, and African-American. I had an African-American friend tell me that she could tell I was Somali because I had a certain "look," like how members of some ethnic groups look similar to one another.
