After upgrading our FamilyTree Y-DNA 37 to the Big Y, our haplogroup has been updated to a deeper J-ZS8897.
Our closest relatives so far is a Somali who is Warsangeli and the Khawlan tribe of Yemen/Saudi Arabia.
J1 is rare in Somalis. After all this DNA research what we have learned for sure is Somalis are crazy ! That's about it!
The main paternal Somali haplogroups are E1b1b1 (E-Y18629), T1a1a (T-Y45591), and some J1. In the autosomal dna testing where they look at all of your DNA not only your paternal ydna, all tribes are connected.
We need more people to take the FamilyTreeDNA tests. It’s crazy because all the tribes have split at least in 2 or 3 different ways lol.
This test will be the start to correcting our tribal issues. Start at 37 markers unless you got some extra money you can go higher but I'd recommend starting there.

If everyone takes one test it'll change the minds of many. If our forefathers came together from different places under the banner of our land and religion we can do the same.
Those interested can join the FTDNA Somali project online. I wish we had more researchers or databases but this is one I know and they are quite knowledgeable.
