Forget the political ramifications, most of the tax revenue from Hobyo's fishing jetty would end up in Puntland's hands, thus negating the point of having Hobyo port to begin with. Not to mention fuel, the money spent by drivers on their stops etc etc.

Then they would have to stop at Turdibi dry port to travel to DDSI.

the trade with DDS is important but in my pov the reason Hobyo is critical is so that HG and central hawiye don't have to rely on garcad. If Hobyo is built that will eliminate garcad viability in central/south somalia .


As for DDS they will always need more ports, Hobyo - Beledweyne -Ferer, or Hobyo Gaalkayo - galdagob can be done HG lands run from the coast and border with leelkase. imo Ethiopia will still do a majority of their port deals with Djibouti until further notice.

Any ports being built now will need business from somalia.
