It is, you're correct. But ultimately, they both result in the same thing. The African or Asian society will adopt the cultural and linguistic norms of the society where the religion came from, replacing their own cultural heritage. Sometimes, they'll even go to extreme to change how they look.

For Asians, they'll have eye-surgery, nose-surgery and skin lightening and for Africans it's hair-straightening and skin-lightening. They also change their first names to western names. Almost all non-muslim Africans and Asians in the west have names like Roger and Helen.

For Somalis, it's referring to eachother as "akhi" and "ukhti", wearing binbags and Arabian gowns and changing their names to "Abu this" and "Umm that". Apparently, the more you resemble an Arab, the greater chance of entering paradise you have. Who knew?

That's a lazy excuse sxb, most East Asian names are monosyllabic. You can pronounce Maximilian, but not Chu Chong? It's to appear more like whites. They have a big inferiority complex, especially their women.

Africans on the other hand, its usually Christian French/English speakers from Subsaharan Africa with cadaan names. A Fulbe, Swahili or a Hausa will have his cultural name. Whereas a Christian Zulu or Igbo will call himself Clarence Mbutu.

When I responded to Amun, I meant that the reason he views one as an appropriation and the other as extreme booty-clapping is bc the stronger of the two is deepened by faith. A Westernized Somali is 'appropriating' (hate this word) bc there isn't a holiness or sacrosanct association to his actions. A deeply religious Somali views the faith as above everything else and his faith and love for it lends strength to 'bootyclapping' (hate this word) and Arab affinity that almost practically comes as a package deal for the devout practitioner.

Nah, they only have a couple of the short names without tones. Many are too difficult. I have worked with Chinese people before and wouldn't even want to pronounce their original names.

True but especially in South Korea, the plastic surgery rates are high. A real shame tho since most of them are more attractive compared to other ethnic Asians. I once saw a girl who had a nose job done. Her nose turned huge... while it was small and cute before. All that just to look more European. bleeghh
