Lol they're neither oppressed or mistreated, they're far better well off than ethnic Somalis in the west and very proud of their Asian, non-African roots. They tell you they're Arab, Persian, Portuguese, etc.

The Barawanese language is a Swahili language called Chimini
Benadiri, Barawani, Bajuni etc, are all the same mixed race coastal trader groups who live along the East African Coast. They are Swahili people, the same people you will find in Zanzibar and Tanzania.
Sometimes they look Arab, sometimes, they look like lightskinned/Mixed Bantus people. I bet their DNA is mostly Asian.

Yes in the West, they are not oppressed obviously. I know i'm conflating cadcads with Barwaanis, but cadcads were oppressed and their women raped. My family is from Xamar and saw their neighbors looted and killed.
A lot of them will tell you they are Somalis. Some of them though have deep resentment about how they were treated during the war. Before the war, they weren't oppressed and had businesses and houses. All of that has been taken away from them. The same can be said for other ethnic Somalis, but these people aren't ethnic and so have been otherised.
All in all, Somalis outside of Somalia are shaqo' laan when it comes to telling cadcads and Barwanis they are not Somali. I used to talk like that, but recently I had to really rethink my silliness after speaking to elder members of my fam.

Somalis that are born and raised in Arabia for generations don't get citizenship. Makes sense. Likewise Benadiris are Asian settlers/colonists in Somalia.
That's funny considering they look partially Bantu and they speak a Bantu language which is part of the Swahili language family.
They need to shake their family trees hard before trying to insult their own roots.
Clearly Asian traders came to East Africa and then had to marry local Bantu women to form these communities.
Not true, anyone who has lived in the Middle East knows that groups that have lived in the Khaleej pre-1965 do indeed have Emirati, Omani ect passports.

Cadcads and Barwaanis are our version of Balochis, people that have lived in Somalia for centuries. Not giving them citizenship would be mad. Not even Arabs do this, as ethnic minorities that have lived amongst them do indeed have citizenships. Look up Oman and the UAE. Many of their citizens are Balochis.
Any Khaleeji you see with the surname Al- Balushi originates from Balochistan.

Also, Somalis who lived in the Khaleej before they became wealthy also acquired Arab nationalities.
I know what you're talking about, those Somalis that moved to Arabia in the 19th century were part of my tribe. One group went to colonize Kismayo (Bajuni village) and the other to Arabia to work as soldiers.
There's even some Barawanis of Balochi origin too that came with the Omanis.
What they have been through is messed up but they come from a place of privilege, where they can just throw their somalinimo away as they please. Midgaans and many other ethnic minority qabils get treated like garbage but you will never see them say that they arenβt Somali. Somali Bantus get treated way worse than them in Somalia but I have never met any online and offline that claim to not be Somali or come from Somalia.
They need to go back to Yemen, Portugal or whatever they claim to be from.

Majority of Somalis that don't have citizenship in Arabia arrived after 1970. The ones that have been there before are a tiny minority and some that have stayed have it. Some were offered it and refused. They thought Somalia would continue to be stable.

Sadly, most are probably there because they overstayed their visa, which is illegal and brings a bad reputation for Somalis.

Actually Somalis outside of certain parts of konfuur see them as non Somali. No one in waqooyi, Djibouti, Bari or galbeed sees them as Somali since they donβt live alongside them.

There's another south Asian group there from Gujarat, the khoja Ismaili. They're practically Indians. Think the Aga Khan people that dominate trade in East Africa.
