It is also the case that that kind of garment is ancient in Somalia and Arabia- the Arabs called it 'izaar. We call it gundhate I believe. The only thing that changed is the kind of fabric i.e fabrics imported from Asia. So the people crying macawis isn't 'indigenous' are just blowing it out of proportion- the garment is, the fabric changed that's all that happened.
