Agreed. Whether it’s practical or not is beside the point. It is a way to create an identity for people. The PL government like most Somali governments don’t think long term

The SYL faction who wanted a Latin script did so because they didn't want Somalia to be isolated and they were Western educated. If Somalia had Oil wealth like the Arabs, I believe a native script would have been a stronger contender as there would less fear of isolation.

It's actually sad when you think about why the Latin script was adopted.

You don't have to use the script like an abjad at all. You can insert vowels. create some new letters and use it pretty much how we use the Latin script:

I am looking at it from a Cultural preservation angle for a hypothetical 'ideal' Somalia, where the country is wealthy enough to maintain several languages.

Arabs were also colonised, but they kept their native script alongside foreign scripts. But then again, they had more economic power and of course Arabic is far richer in every way than any other script on earth.

Osmanya was also made by an uneducated book writer from the 1920s wheras the kaddare script was crafted by a collection of university educated men including Hussein sheik Mohamed kaddare, a Somali linguist whom extensively researched into traditional Somali traditions and folklore. I think Arabic Script is easier to read than Latin but the Arabic cultural infiltration of Somalia is quite troubling. A lot of Somalis cannot distinguish between Arabs and Islam.

Kadarre script is far younger than Osmanya script first of all, secondly, you should use Kadarre for your own regions as Mogadishu hasn't been the capital of the Somali ethnic group since 1991, when it turned into a one-clan stronghold.
