Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) got the message in 610, the Hijjarah was in 615, the bypassed THE NORTH FOR GODS SAKE.

That doesn’t mean that the whole off Somalia was converted when just the northern part off Somalia was bypassed during the Hijjarah.

My clan this! My clan that! Stop fucking nagging about your clan I could care less about you or your clan since I am and I WAS talking about Somalis as a whole you idiot. If you could comprehend what I was saying you wouldn’t be nagging back and forth with me about your stupid clan since I wasn’t singling you idiots out for gods sake. Read better next time.

Turkey despite its shorter association with Islam than Somalia had a huge effect on it, Iran & Iraq inspired islam in terms of Astronomy, music & culture which the Northern Africans also did. Heck even India had an amazing golden age with the Mughal Empire! And these are all nations that converted after us and they achieved something that you me & all those stupid clans could dream off.
You are talking about contributions to islam whilst i'm talking about Somalis connection to islam and how it has built our identity.

The point of this thread is whether somalis are ethno religious and the answer is yes because our religion has played the most part in forming the Somali Identity.

Waaq means protector, and Allah is the best protector. Somalis were never pagans

And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation. And if you should follow their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against Allah any ally or any protector.
“Prior to the advent of Islam in Somalia, its indigenous population are believed to have adhered to a complex polytheistic belief system comprised of various deities who were all governed by a single all-powerful figure called Eebeand invariably also referred to as Waaq, from where their ancient religion draws its name, Eebe Waaq.

Their ordinary religious temples and places of worship were known as Xeerohowever for more ceremonial events, the ancient Somalis would attend the Taalo where important rituals were conducted under the guidance of a priest, known as Wadaad.

With the scarce historical documentation still extant and available to researchers in this field, we can outline a basic overview of the ancient spiritual hierarchy upheld and venerated by the ancient people of Somalia. The religion of Eebe Waaq is said to have been comprised of the following key figures.

Above all deities and entities in the religion of Eebe Waaq was the mightyWaaq who presided over the affairs of humanity, it was he that the ancient people of Somalia venerated above all others, they attributed to him the creation of mankind for the sole purpose of praising and venerating him. According to classic Somali legends, he lived in the heavens and whenever the nomads successfully prayed for rain it was known as Barwaaqo – which researchers have loosely translated as ‘God's rain’. The identity of this Somali deity is also believed to have been synonymous to that of the ancient Cushitic Sky God.”

  • Waaq (also Waq or Waaqa) is the ancient name for God in the Cushitic languages of both the Oromo people and Somali people in the Horn of Africa. The word still means God in present Oromo language. Some traditions indicate Waaq is associated with the Harar region, however Waaqism also extends to eastern Kenyan Cushitic tribes, the Aweer people. In Oromo and Somali culture, Waaq, Waaqa or Waaqo was the name of God in their pre-Christian and pre-muslim monotheistic faith believed to have been adhered to by Cushitic groups. This religion was practiced mainly by Somali people and Oromo people before Christianity and Islam came to the Horn of Africa. There are also ancient names of villages which involve the word (WAAQ) in the Somali language and also Oromo language. (en

“In religious studies, an ethnic religion is a religion or belief associated with a particular ethnic group. Ethnic religions are often distinguished from universal religions, such as Christianity or Islam which are not limited in ethnic, national or racial scope and which emphasize proselytism.”

Muslims are followers of the religion of Islam and Muslims can be of various ethnicities. Islam is a religion that is followed by ALL, it is not made for, nor made by 1 ethnic group.

I could go on Wikipedia right now and change its history and add that Somalia has descendants of royal bloodline 🙄 you people use Wikipedia and your supposed upbringing as a source to proof your supposed “SoMaLiS aRe EtHnO-ReLiGiOuS” claims. Unless Somalis have had some influence on Islam and or shaped Islam into what it is today doesn’t make Somalia an ethnoreligious country just because Islam is the majority.

If we go by you idiots logic The Netherlands & its descendants would be Ethno-Religious since Christianity had a huge influence on Dutch culture, same goes for the Germans, Greeks & British. Which doesn’t make sense, South Korea for example wouldn’t also be ethnic-religious just because 1 religion is the majority of the country. Heck not even Indonesia isn’t out into that category while it holds the biggest Islamic population off the whole world
1. The basic definition of Ethnoreligious: People unified by a common ethnic group and religion. Please explain to me how that doesn't fit Somalis.
2. I love how you brought up the Dutch, Germans, and British. Guess what, 37% confidently non-religious[1], 34% don't subscribe to a religion[2], 53% describe themselves of not having a religion respectively[3].
3. Greeks ARE considered an ethno-religion.

Christianity and islam are both intended as universal religions but my greek friend in media class keeps yapping about how greeks are ethno religious and the "true christians"

And your sources are reliable?
Your source took the fact that waaq is pagan from this source.

It's other source that is the only credible one which is oxford doesn't claim waaq is polytheist at all

@Xoxoxo

I seriously doubt your Somali, that or you’re a Murtad.
aren’t you a Muslim yourself? Weird to call somebody you don’t know and who’s a Muslim that participates in 5 off the pillars a murtad 🤥

“When a person calls his brother (in Islam) a disbeliever, one of them will certainly deserve the title. If the addressee is so as he has asserted, the disbelief of the man is confirmed, but if it is untrue, then it will revert to him” (narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

“Whoever calls a man ‘kafir’ [disbeliever] or said ‘O, enemy of Allah’, when he is not one, (the accusation) will rebound to him” (narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

“A man does not call another as fasiq or kafir, except that he will be the apostate if the other is actually not” (narrated by Al-Bukhari).

Not a smart thing to say brother ☺️ I advise you to watch your tongue and to think twice instead of mumbling out nonsense. Would be a shame.

Stop copy and pasting some obscure blog. Now you wanna claim that ‘Eebe’ (Somali word for God) is some pagan entity? Open up Somali tafsir book and see how they translated Illaah/God

Please what Liberalism all I said was that Waaqism was a pagan religion that Somalis still practiced after rejecting the Torah & Bible and that it is thanks to my ancestors that a majority of Somalis are even Muslims in our times and that they haven’t had any influence on it despite *supposedly according to you guys claims from your stupid clans* being a fully Islamic country for 1400 years

Everything in your post is completely made up.

There is no evidence Somalis ever believed in "Waaq" and your ancestors are also not the reason Somalis are Muslims. You are writing fanfiction.

No one has influence on Islam it is a revealed religion and that has nothing to do with the fact that Somalis are the definition of an ethnoreligous group, murtads have no place.

Your posts a delusional, made up, and a waste of time.

Nobody claimed them to be, no Christian considers themselves to be a ethno-religious group. Only the Jews have that going on.

Just because you have 1 classmate that says those stupid things doesn’t mean that it’s the truth. Gosh you’re gullible
