We kick the UN out every couple of years. Also they didn't side with Failmaajo. Basically UN said we don't care about this situation which was a bigger slap in the face to Failmaajo than SL because it means UAE - SL can do whatever we want

UN was Failmaajo last begging stop. First be begged the Saudis and then they told him to f*ck off. Then they begged UAE and they said f*ck off. Then they begged AU and they said f*ck off. Then they took their begging to the UN and this was the verdict

Somaliland government to cut ties with all UN agencies
March 29, 2018

High level committees appointed by President to announce decisions. President Muse Bihi’s administration is planning to cut ties with all UN agencies in Somaliland. A committee chaired by Deputy President was established who will reportedly expel all UN agencies in Somaliland. Members of the committee include Foreign Minister Saad Ali Shire, Minister of Transport and Roads Development Abdillahi Abokor, Minister of National Planning and Development Awale Ibrahim Shirwa and the Director of Civil Aviation Authority Abdi Mohamed Rodol.

According to the reports, the committee met on several occasions and discussed potential expulsion of all UN agencies operating in Somaliland.

The reason behind Government’s potential decision is not clear as there is no official statement from the Government. However, reliable sources told Foore Newspaper that President Muse Bihi’s administration has not been happy with the UN work in Somaliland and therefore established a committee to evaluate the pros and cons of UN work.

President Muse’s Government is also upset with the way SRSG Michael Keating treats Somaliland, particularly that he did not include Somaliland’s historic presidential election in his speech to the UN(SC) Meeting on 25th January 2018.

There are other reports indicating that UN International Civil Aviation Organization is shortly moving from Nairobi to Mogadishu without any consultations with the Government of Somaliland. This reportedly damaged Somaliland’s trust on the UN work. Moreover, it was reported that UN flights to Somaliland and on Somaliland airspace will be halted.

ICAO is said to be moving to Mogadishu on 29th March and will govern Somaliland and Somalia airspace from there.

One of the biggest reason is:

This is good. The UN needs to be kicked out of a lot of places . Good to see SL has leadership with balls that will kick the corrupt folks out. UN serves no real purpose anymore.

Oday true but the UN also provides a lot of services in Somaliland such as infrastructure, security, education, health, governance etc.

They do everything there there is no central government that can borrow funds from IMF and World Bank.

In the absence of the central government the UN provided a lot of services up to now.

The UN even builds latrines

On World Toilet Day, 14 Somali villages are recognized for abandoning open defecation

Garowe, Hargeisa, 19 November 2016 - Twelve villages in Somaliland and two in Puntland have been officially recognized for demonstrating that everyone in their community uses a toilet and no longer goes into the fields, bushes, forests, water or open spaces to defecate.

The news comes as the world marks World Toilet Day, on 19 November, which focuses on taking action to reach the 2.4 billion people worldwide living without a toilet. Sanitation is a global development priority with the Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, including a target of ensuring everyone everywhere has access to toilets by 2030.

UNICEF has introduced a behaviour change approach known as Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) - a sensitization process to empower community members to take collective action to end open defecation and to build and use toilets. This approach focuses on the health benefits of not defecating in the open. In 2012 UNICEF began the project in 60 villages throughout Somalia and is finally seeing some results. The 12 villages were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) by designated verification teams led by the Ministries of Health.

What babies. Muse Bihi is the greatest thing to ever happen to Somaliland.
:mjlol:

So why were they there in the first place if you dont need them?

Because of the civil war they've been here ever since as somaliland has been trapped in a twilight zone between lack of recognition and failed state of Somalia. The UN use to be good org but for the past 10 years they've been money laundering money from the general UN meant to be used in Somalia/Somaliland , and keeping the money for themselves while development has barely changed on the ground. They donate couple vehicles and help dig a well every couple months and use that as proof they are doing their UN duties
