Wars in Somalia have their roots in Bab El Mandeb Strait Geopolitics. Survival Education in Geo-strategy is a must.

The British were the first to notice Somalia's strategic importance, hence the Dervish War, and the USSR allying with the SDR to control the seas.

The Interiontial community wants Somalia to remain chaotic, so they can loot their seas and use its strategic importance.

Land-based U.S. warplanes and naval power in Somalia would be in a position to dominate the Persian Gulf and much of North Africa. Ground forces stationed in Somalia would be able to respond quickly to any Iraqi or Iranian threat. This ability to dominate the Persian Gulf is why the Russians built air bases there in the first place.Starvation caused by political chaos gave them a reason to enter the country. The continued threat of clan warfare and more starvation gives the U.S. a humanitarian reason to remain.

What is exactly are they benefitting?
Iran, SK and other countries benefits fishing the Somali waters dry without consequence, U.S/Arabs benefit from military bases and more influence in EA, entering our waters without approval, using cheap Somali ports, uranium, cheap resources, oil and so on.

Would have been better if Somalia was connected to Asia like Egypt. Then we could have built a canal and would have total control of the most important shipping route in the world.

Doesn't make any sense. The strategic region (Berbera) has nothing to do with the anarchy in Mogadishu.

It's just another excuse for Somalians to blame foreigners instead of their own failures.

OP is spot on. Somalia wouldn't receive military and economic aid from Soviets if it wasn't for Berbera strategic location.

So if Somaliland becomes independent The rest of Somalia should be peacefull?

Of course not. Somalia's civil war is being sustained by marginalized clans supporting terrorists and mingling of foreign powers in the political scene.

I meant that in 1970's during the cold war Berbera's location was of great importance for both super powers and they compete to have access to the port by showering Somalia with military and economic aid. This has allowed Siad Barre to build the Somali Army into a formidable force that will soon attack Somali Galbeed and signaling the end of Somalia.
