Tell me how many Somalis do you know that have Somali names? bet all(or 95%) of the Somalis you know have arab names. We've already lost our names, and clothing, next is our language then our genetics- we'll be the next "afro arabs". Somalis seem to think the closer you are to arab, the better muslim you are.
It baffles me because there is no goddamn middle ground on this website.
Either people say that the Arab dress is Somali culture and there is no issue, or that Islam is a cancer is the root cause of all this.

If Islam is the root cause of all this, then why is this such a recent phenomenon? We've been muslims for over a thousand years.
Islam (more specifically Arab clothings such as the abaya) were only recently made into a thing due to Wahhabism taking a hold over Somalia after the Civil War.
For a group that stereotypically prides itself on "rationality" the atheists on this website are very emotional and can't seem to separate their ridiculously heated hatred for Islam from what's actually going on.
I'm not an atheist sxb, but it just annoys me when people adopt Arab culture in order to "be a good Muslim", when Islam never said to do that--you can keep your own culture, just don't practice anything haram. And yea, it definitely is because of the war, instability is known to fuel extreme viewpoints and actions. Pre-war Somalia seemed to be have been doing a good job of balancing culture and deen.

Its pretty bad sis, especially with people that grew up back home. If Somalis don't wake up we'll soon be like Sudan.

But I've noticed it too, I have pictures of my mother and her friends pre civil war.
It was so beautiful, the woman didn't have to cover their hair and wore trousers and they went to parties and it looked really fun.
