If its on mainstream media, don't believe it
I have pictures of my mother and her friends pre civil war.

It was so beautiful, the woman didn't have to cover their hair and wore trousers and they went to parties and it looked really fun.

This is why it's important to learn the difference between deen and dhaqan. A lot of people are hiding behind arabism when in reality what your criticizing is a part of Islam. I understand if non-Muslims do it but as a Muslim you should know what your deen entails ...whether or not your going to follow it is another question.
Also, if your holding a certain opinion and to the left and right of you are gaalo's agreeing then that speaks volumes.

Same here, you see how our parents' generation grew up and how our generation is currently growing up in Somalia and there is a stark contrast. It didn't mean they didn't believe in Islam (some people try to use that excuse, that Somalis were "ignorant" in those days), it's just that they weren't obsessed with emulating Arabs. Because of the civil war, a lot of Saudi wahabbi individuals took advantage of the situation, and went to teach people a very extreme form of the deen which directly led to groups like al-Shabaab to pop up etc

Somalis are no more obsessed with Arabs today than they were in the 80's. In fact, claiming Arab lineages didn't pop in 2017, denouncing them did. I'm not even sure why you're trying to compare because Arab countries both now and then looked better, happier and healthier than Somalia ever did.

Sure lineages weren't created recently, but people seem to put more stock into "possibly having Arab blood" now than back then. There's a lot of self haters in our community at present. All you have to do is look around sspot (and real life), so many people try to claim they're Arab as if they don't call us abeed behind our backs.

The world is also more interconnected, and we're exposed to far more outside influences than our parents' generation. It's not a fair comparison. I don't doubt there are many 'self-haters' in our community. Even in real life, but that is only reflective of the diaspora. People don't only booty clap for Arabs either. There are many Somalis falling for pan-Africanism, Westernization and perhaps even a weeaboo movement in the near future. Getting rid of hijabs, abayas or jilbaabs or simply promoting traditional garments isn't going to do shit for Somalia. It's only an issue for diasporans that don't even abide by Somali dhaqan. Arab culture is just being scapegoated.

The government doesn't force the hijab at women but the society turned so restricted and conservative in past 20 years. Also, Hijab is part of school uniforms.

You can be interconnected without wanting to change your ethnicity. I don't see Pakistanis or Persians wanting to be Arabs. Nobody needs to be getting rid of hijabs (it's a religious garment) but nobody can deny that Somalis are more Arabized than we were 20-30 yrs ago. And not even just in dress (dressing is the least of our worries) it's more the fact that people are holding Arab culture to a higher standard and consider it more ilbax than our original culture. This is a toxic mentality and opens the door for Arab culture to take over entirely. And you actually see it more in people back home, fobs bootyclap the most for Arabs out of anyone in the diaspora.
