We just need to understand our emotions better and people have to be encouraged to talk about about how they feel.

When my mother and another very family member were both very ill, I used to cry to myself in bed @ night.

I had to contend with a million other responsiblities at the same time. Many Somalis families do not understand the idea of pressure, stress and how much of a burden a person can take. I have seen Somalis of low income who are expected to feed 10 people back home, feed their families in the West and hold down like 2 jobs at the same time. Many pretend they are soldiers and carry on regardless. However, If you see the number of Somalis in mental homes, you will come to understand the soldier bravado is merely a coping mechanism, one that doesn’t work.

The other issue is that grieving in the Somali community consists of people packing your house for 3 days and then everyone disappears. After that, you are supposed to have “ Sabr”. People need emotional support well after the “tacsi” period.

I am having water today for breakfast today so I am thinking on a higher emotional level.

Once I drink sugary tea, I shall back to being a hyper masculine skinny Farax.

The prophet SAW cried numerous times and all for different reasons. He used to cry for the sake of Allah, when happy as well as when sad and grieving. Crying has nothing to do with femininity, neither does it affect your rationality. It's not a weakness, it's a blessing from Allah. In fact, lack of tears is a sign of hardheartness.
Making fun of/mocking one of Allah's blessings is dangerous. Do better people.
