Masculinity in patriarchal society is as restrictive as any other regime of rules, it is defined negatively as not being like a woman or a homosexual man, and the former is known for crying, and thus a man can't cry to retain his masculine nature in this world view.
Masculinity is in certain social circles and societies is a currency of its own that confers privileges and benefits and become a defining characteristics trough social reproduction by seeing the aforementioned higher status.
Virtue signaling trough taunting men who cry or show any deviation from the normative rules ensures that not only the masculine nature is retained but the system that benefits oneself is emphasized and indirectly strengthening such a system.
The problem with such a system is apparent as it creates an internal consistent system, meaning it is consistent only if the premises of the superiority of masculinity and its enforcement is accepted at face value, but it runs into problem with known reality and thereby become external inconsistent. By this is meant that the system fails to stay consistent once its premises is challenged by the reality outside it, which shows that men are humans with the same range of emotions as women, and the dichotomy between the two is never reconciled to the detriment of men everywhere.
