Maraq what the hell are you talking about? Find me these xalimos who are congratulating black people for abusing black police officers. You are taking this to a far extreme that does not even seem to exist. If I found a video of a free Palestine supporter cheering on Jews getting abused in the UK would this mark the stance of the whole movement?
You need to decide whether it’s somali girls who are speaking out against police racism who are the problem or police officers who are mainly stop and searching black children who are the problem. Looks like you have one foot in both camps.
Personally I stopped giving a damn about how the police treats Somalis since you openly mock girls that do. I hope the police ramp it up because it doesn’t affect women only men.
It is possible to agree with someone on one thing and disagree with them on many other points. Moreover, it is is normal to differ on methodology and ideology with a given group whom you generally sympathise with on one particular topic. It doesn’t mean I have a foot in both camps, though I must admit to bashing them rather unfairly at times.
Secondly, BLM does not have a god-given right to be the sole voice of the African people in the West on the subject of police brutality/discrimination. My family were taking the police to court way before some little Xalimo found Twitter.
To clarify my views on BLM and Somalis, I generally sympathise with them on the subject of police discrimination. Where I differ with them is on the following points:
1. Historical revisionism about Somalis.
2. Their Cultural appropriation of AA struggles, history, and trying to fit Somalis into some monotholic black victim experience. I prefer to understand African history not as monolithic experience, but as a sets of heterogenous nations with different cultures, religions and experiences. A Somali nomads experience with Europeans and Arabs is not the same as Somali Bantus or Bantus in Zanzibar. For me, Afrocentrism is probably more ahistorical and racist than Eurocentrism. I think it is racist to view African history through the lense of colour all the time when European history is understood through the lenses of nations and ethnicities.
3. Cringeworthy racism towards whites/Arabs people in general and the gross over exaggeration of racism faced by Somalis in the West. We are not AAs and have not been struggling for 500 years. We came to the West at a time when black people were granted many rights and we benefited from free education, housing and many of us send money back home. Reading some of the stuff BLM Somalis write you would be think they experienced Jim Crow. I think they are too critical of their host societies and grossly exaggerate every perceived act of injustice. Call me a coon if you want.
Yes, I have been stopped and searched by the police a few times and there is some institutional racism, but even I don’t believe there is some great crusade against me by white society in general which stops me from achieving my best. I also don’t believe the police issue is the biggest one for Somalis in the West. The gang and crime issue deserves much more time and effort. The gangs and criminals are doing more harm to the community’s than the police. We ignore the daily murder of blacks by other blacks but everyone is ready to protest and go to war on the odd and rare ccasion when a black man is killed in UK police custody......
Suugo Science tangent !
