the police are more likely to arrest black men for pettier crimes, once in court a jury is more likely to convict you and you are more likely to be given a longer sentence for the same crime by the judge if you are a black male than anyone else. All human beings have a bias and whether it’s the jury or the police officer in the street it’s important to have conversations about it.

I have had many Somali males telling me about negative incidents with the police which they cited was because of islamophobia/race. Ofcourse it’s not as bad as in America and I think the police do a very good job overall. They are taking more steps to combat racism by hiring more ethnic minorities and promoting them to higher ranks and this should be applauded. Admitting that the criminal justice system can improve in its handling of black men does not necessarily equate hating the police. Just like admitting referees make mistakes does not mean you would want a football game without one.
