You can only blame the successive Ethiopian regimes, be it republican or imperial, for everything they've done to the people. (You know yourself what Eritreans experienced during its "short" stint, being occupied. Imagine being part of the country for much longer.) Even today do very few trust them. Maybe if they tried to correct the error of its past, some would consider. But it's too late now. Most Ethiopians are sceptical of the state.

You don't see Somalis in Kenya complaining like those in Ethiopia, despite Kenya not having ethnic federalism, and even Somalis integrated into society among the other ethnic groups. Hint: The problem isn't the ethnic federalism in itself.

Yes when we first got independence, Hararis were heavily involved with the SYL. Harar was a proposed capital, it wasn’t the best idea but they had their reasons. They sided with us countless times. Dawg I lowkey feel like we failed them. They fought in our wars, not just them but the now almost extinct warjih and argobba too. I should make a thread on them. They were also apart of adal/ifat sultanate and were long time traders and merchants in saylac and around somali areas. They got eaten up by oromo expansionism. The problem is that ethnic federalism gives an avenue for disgruntled people to cause havoc. At least pre-Meles, if there were any separatists trying to cause mayhem they would be gunned down on the spot. The current system has allowed further radicalisation into these separatists groups as well
