My dad and his buddies used to be Sufis, maanta waa Ahlu hadiith, Sufism ilaahay uma naxriisto.

Traditionally, a lot of Muslim nations like Somalia used to predominantly be Ashari. However, the average Somali, especially in the West like myself is Athari.

I think some people on this thread don’t know what they’re talking about. You have a poster here arguing that Somali Sufi’s are Athari. That doesn’t make sense as Sufis for the most part are indeed Ashari.

Throughout Islamic history, There were time periods in which people were mostly Ashari and times in which people were mostly Athari. Amongst scholars, there used to be fierce debates in the Medival period.

Most laymen don't know aqeedah enough to classify themselves as athari (salafis are athari) or ashari. You need to be a student of knowledge to fully understand the difference. Laymen in Somalia follow their shaykhs, I think most of our shaykhs used to be ashari but we probably have more atharis now
