...why Somalia is in the Arab League? I met an Eritrean family the other day and they started speaking to me in Arabic. I didn't know they were xabashi, I assumed they were Sudani. It got me thinking, why is Somalia considered an Arab country when we have our own language and customs and the average Somali only speaks Somali but Eritrea, a country that has many Arab speakers and even has an Arab tribe living among them are not?

Can we swap with them? They can have our seat at the Arab League.:hmm:

Sure let us swap seats with them and while we are at it let us swap places with the US and get a permanent seat in the united Nations security council because geopoliticals is as easy as that

How many times are you guys going to talk about the same thing over again. I've seen so many threads discussing the same topic.

UN security council is an exclusive club made up of the wealthiest and most powerful nations on earth. The Arab league is a glorified country club for desert Bedouins. Those two aren't comparable at all.:kodaksmiley:

Economics.

Kacaan era had trade deals with emerging gulf states and many Somalis worked abroad in said states which is why there are established well off somali communities there today especially the Somalis in Dubai who act as a conduit/intermediary to trade between the far east to Somali territories (Somalia/SLand) and even other African countries such as Kenya and Uganda.

I personally think it's wise to stick to the block for economical reasons however, that doesn't mean Somalia should continue to allow the Arabisation of Somali language and culture.

It doesn't harm like the IGAD membership but it doesn't benefit as well. But at least, unlike IGAD, we entered and negotiated our membership to that league as a powerful country.

You're right, geopolitics is about serving your nation's interests. Being in the Arab League doesn't do that. Like I said, it's a glorified country club for Arab dictators to meet and compare golf swings with golf clubs they use to bash their people's heads with.

Although I agree with you that the Arab league is useless we shouldn't leave it leaving would send a wrong message to our Arab friends who are our main trading partners and since we don't pay anything to stay in it I don't see what is the problem

We don't need to be a member of the arab league to maintain trade relations with those folks. Either way, there's no real benefit from arab states if we're going to modernise our economy. We should focus on building close relations with Asian countries, especially east asian ones to get technical expertise & other economic benefits.

Plus, the fact we are not Arab is enough of a reason for us to not be a member of that useless organisation.
