couldn’t have said it better myself.
There are jobless Somalis on twitter working overtime searching “somali” on twitter search lmao wtf.
They don’t know what it means to be lowkey or just mind your own business.
Nigerians are probably 10x more racist against black americans than somalis with their stereotypes and how they see them. But ADOS barely clock on them only because you don’t have nigerians on twitter constantly spouting it.
This is because Somalis on twitter think they’re victims and need to be on the defense ffs.
a universally accepted maxim in every culture is that being loud is dumb and being quiet is wise and this holds truth in the age of the internet and socials.
unfortunately, we have a good number of obnoxiously loud people who are either unaware the intensity of their unfiltered views and want to be the centre of attention, or oblivious to the fact that the conversation isn't necessarily about them and that sometimes it's better to keep quiet.
Hadith
"Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day speak good, or keep silent; and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour; and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest.
[Al-Bukhari] [Muslim]
unfortunately many of our people on the socials are either unnecessarily and obnoxiously loud or stick their noses in to other people's business.
Biblical Proverb, Proverbs 17:28.
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
"Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt." M. Twain
"Either remain quiet, or say things that improve the silence. ~ " Greek Proverb.
"A fool who can keep silent is counted among the wise. ~ Yiddish Proverbs"
"I grew up among wise men and found that there is nothing better for man than silence." Sierra Leonean Proverbs
"Often there is eloquence in a silent gaze." Latin Proverb
"Silence is the best answer to the stupid. The fool has his answer on the tip of his tongue." Arabian Proverb
"Af Daboolan waa Dahab." Somali proverb
since online behavior can have a real world consequences for us,
we shud raise awareness the importance of being low-key and practicing a positive social media etiquette .
We also need an online gatekeeping brigade for the unhinged and pathologically incoherent.
