Off course it does when it comes to judging on his character. If he moved like warlord, acted like a warlord and brought the country down with him than he is indeed closer to warlord warlord than an illegitimate president who come through a coup.

But at least you admitted he ended as one the moment he vacated Mogadishu, he was no different than Caydiid or Mahdi in 1991 - 1992.
By that logic any sultan/monarch/president/dictator who committed heinous crimes could be considered a warlord which isnt the case. The definition of a warlord is very clear:
"A military commander, especially an aggressive regional commander with individual autonomy."
Siad barre clearly doesnt quality.
A warlord is less about the crimes they commit as a leader but more about power, political legitimacy and the extent/scope of their rule over a territory.

Than by your own definition he's a warlord between 1989-1992 because he only controlled 15% of Somalia's total area which limits his authority or political legitimacy.

I'd say its only clear he was a warlord between 1991 - 92, during 1989 - 91 period, imo he was a president that was gradually losing control of a country and eventually everything. I dont think the latter stages of that process turns a president who still has political legitimacy, limited control of what was the foundation of the government in the first such as the gov positions, military, national assets, etc. I guess there's can be a argument for it though.

Yes he was like Barre Hiiraale was more peace loving than mandela kacan general all angels and Farmaajo a miskiin that spreads kheyr out of his good heart he is so caring especially with those helpedπŸ‘πŸΎ
MSB president
Hiraale is a war hero and former defense minister, he is the Kagame of JL saving MX from genocide neither fought against the government, AY and Caydiid fought against the government and were both working with shisheeye, while Caydiid was killed by his own AY is almost worshiped by his people who name airport after him.

Political legitimacy and limited authority over weak government doesn't change the fact he controlled only 15% of Somalia's territory, so by your own definition he was a warlord among many because he only controlled limited geographic area that he can exercise his authority upon but nearly 80% of Somalia was out of his reach. By the time USC captured Mogadishu there was nothing left of the government.

If you look at news from 1989-1990 he was changing government every few months promising to hold multi party democratic elections & negotiate with rebels as a stalling tactic. He was like Siraj government in Libya before Turks intervention, a tiny government with no authority that is being cornered with rebel groups.

But none of them fled or abandoned their people both helped rebuild their land most importantly both made gains for their and stakeholders. Both are loved by thier people their legacy living on.

Getting into power by a coup, committing evil acts, or even attempting to come back to power via rebel means (it was a militia vs militia conflict and no legitimate president at the time) doesn't take away the fact he was Somalia's 3rd president, he ruled from raascaseyr to raaskamboni for nearly 20 years. That's longer than any leader before or after.
Absolutely he was the legitimate President and ruler, anyone who tried to overthrow him is a rebel even Islam teaches us to obey our rulers lest the alternative be worst. Just like in Somali failed state for 3 decades and counting

The great thing about this day and age is those books mean nothing when the Internet is free. My nephew in GLK is 13 and he's already seen Keydmedia videos, all the anti revolutionary songs, you think a book can tell him what his fathers liberated was a sham, the milk was still hot when Buurdhuubo was invaded :ftw9nwa:

The even greater thing about the Internet is every USC/Aideed video has dozens of Dooro crying uncontrollably in the comments and spewing hate, which self serves as a deterrent for young HAGs to know who their enemy is. I also thank Farmaajo for trying to reverse the 1991 esque uprising but failed thanks to Badbaado qaran. My years of contributing to HAG propaganda didn't go to waste!

AY built nothing Buntileyn is still shithole just like the rest of Somalia. Mogadishu which had peace for few years is miles ahead of Puntland in every metric.

Define legitimate? Rigging election with 99% of vote like 1986 is not a legitimate mandate to rule a country, especially a single party commie state like Somalia with all powers under a single man. After exhausting all peaceful channels to change the regime from within, only option left was to fight fire with fire. Legitimate president to MOD maybe, but for the rest of Somali people he lost legitimacy after the disgraced defeat of Ogaden War.

The Islamic twist is low key ironic, he was a secular tribalist dictator. He never endorsed sharia law nor linked his legitimacy to Shura. No body endorsed him as president aside from MOD & perhaps minorities.

He basically come through an illegal coup, squatted at the madaxtoyada for 20 year than vacated the place in 1991.

Caydiid will always be known as a failed warlord who failed to be President. Atleast Cali Mahdi AUN was recognized as one. He died at the hands of Cismaan Caato what a pitiful death. Of course his clan would worship him, as expected but the world will always see him as a warlord

Then overthrowing him was a fair game, stop appealing to Islam, nationalism or Somalinimo to justify his reign. After all he proved to be no different than a warlord.

What replaced him? If it was a bloodless coup no one would care but the mayham that ensued after justifies his continued rule.

You want a failed dictator to continue ruling even though he instigated a civil war, caused hundreds of thousands of refugees to relinquish in Ethiopia, killed tens of thousands of civilians, bankrupted the state plunged local economy into financial crisis and systematically violated the basic human rights of his own people.

He failed as a leader and that's why everyone came for his neck.

Fair Game.

The World did indeed go to War with him but that put him on the map. Foreigners are calling him the lion of Africa, he brought confidence to rebel movements that still speak out against US Imperialism. He stays undefeated, he made you persona non grata, exiled your President, stopped Ethiopia invading an inch of the country and the best you can come up with is Cismaan Caato his Sacad cousin got to him first :ftw9nwa: you're just telling me Hawiye can only defeat Hawiye. He is still feared so much it is not even HAG that bring him up it is you who thinks Rooble a reer Hilowle is an Caydiid incarnate, keep self serving the hate it wakes up the sleepers
