We've had this banal discussion plenty of times. Somali is an ethnicity + culture and Islam is a religion.
Sure, you can be Somali via ethnicity and gaal HOWEVER you would be cutting yourself from so much of our dhaqan as its been infused with our diin for centuries upon centuries. If you're cool with that, then go ahead and enjoy your gaal life, knowing that you will be fighting an uphill battle trying to hold onto our culture.

Isra wal Miraj aren't that difficult to accept if one accepts God exists. How Islam defines God and his attributes defy our human logic, yet it is an important component of faith to accept that as a fact. One(the belief that God exists and has unique attributes) follows the other(Isra Wal Miraj story) and that is how the companions of the prophet responded when the prophet told them about his trip in one night to Heaven and Back.

For us today, we read those same verses and at the same time have a more scientific understanding of them.

At any rate, no one is more in need of help than Ayan Herself. And Islam is not a guaranteed faith to everyone including born muslims like Somalis. It is a gift from the creator of the universe and he can take it back from whom he wills. None of us is given a guarantee that they will die in Islam and one must be vigilant and pray in earnest to die on the faith. For those who understand the wisdom behind their existence, they surely do pray to die on Islam. The amazing universe is not in existence for naught.

It depends. Most murtads are hostile to islam so they’re automatically disqualified. Treason is a severe crime even in non religious secular societies (The Esponiage act 1917, Treason act 1351) state traitors should be executed.There were plenty of murtads during the prophets time and no one bothered them, they were simply excommunicated. Murtads were only dealt harshly with when they posed a threat and hostility to the state ( which is islam) because they acted as spies and were backstabbers. Ayan hirsi is an example. If you come across a murtad you should simply do what prophet nuh was advised to do regarding his non believing son in surah hud ayah 46: “O Noah! He is certainly not of your family—he was entirely of unrighteous conduct. So do not ask Me about what you have no knowledge of! I warn you so you do not fall into ignorance.” What we can deduce from this is that a murtad should be excommunicated from the family.

its based on islam as well. before islam there was no Somali ethnicity. the somali ethnic group was birthed from the islamization of proto-somalis who may have had cultural commonalities but they did not have the shared identity that we have today.

Somali is an ethnoreligion. Our founding, unlike Quraysh, was built on the premise of our ethnicity and our Deen (the evidence of that is the history, regardless of its veracity, of our Qabil - how it is intimately tied to Al-Islam, which was supposed to emphasise our intimate ties to the religion). Without one you aren't Somali. Without the ethnicity, you are a Muslim (May Allah bless you and you are still my brother in Islam) and without the Deen you are no different than Oromo (the facade of Somali and may speak Somali but still isn't Somali - you leaving is the demarcation) You leaving Islam means you are Gaal (quite literally no different from an Oromo).

Take the poll in the homeland and you will have your answer. Stop with these convos like goofs.

Take such a poll in Somalia and undoubtedly it would be unanimous that murtads are not considered Somali, they are outcasts.
Even in diaspora communities in the west murtads are not considered Somali or part of the community.
