Right! They see many cultural influences around and think that those people are also the natives. I’m okay with French being taught in school but Somali and canfar should’ve been added as well, hopefully it changes once the regime is gone.
The issue is not with the fact of the language itself being taught. But their should be some limitation to a foreign language, isn't it? I mean Arabic and English are not as scattered in Jabbuti as the french is. They're only taught as foreign languages subject in school and you're not obliged to use dealing with- from your every school subjects to your office work, to every simple receipt from monthly electricity bills to every other legal paperworks one must have to go through with it...etc. And to add, Arabic and English don't start with you from the first grade like the French language is, as if it was our mother tongue. I mean now will my Somali language made of an official language there in France? No, of course. So this is why some of the Somalis from Somalia says that Jabbuti is still not getting over the colonisation impact until this days despite their independence.
But you know what, here I think of Jabutians believe that if it wasn't for the french language the country would have turned into a mess, like for exemple in Somalia case. They think that french language has the reason to have this peaceful mindset to not engage in the destruction of the country.
I don't really know if to agree with that or not. Because in my opinion is really great to learn foreign language but it's also clever to not let it sprawled all over the place in your native land like the case is here. I mean if we don't prioritise our mother tongue, who's going to do it for us? This is the only lands where we can be our true origins.
And recent years too I've learned that the Somali and Canfari language got included in the elementary schools and they even gave uniforms to the students from all the three mains (elementary, middle school and high school) but again now I can see that the situation returned as before as I don't see students dressing up with their uniforms.
