Like many Somali young folks, I’ve been to a shit ton of weddings.

majority of them are in huge Venues, costing groom tens of thousands. Singers, food, and hosting so many is a strain financially to start the marriage.

I was at a wedding last week. Very small and personal, with groom and bride family and friends less than 150 total.

most chill wedding I’ve been to. Never laughed or had such fun wlhi. I had to take notes lmao food was A1 too

the mehr was low, but both bride and groom have pro jobs and are already looking for a home to buy with their saved down payment. They are going to africa I believe. Mashallah

this is how I’ll have mine inshallah. Lower cost event, not many guests, and funds saved for travel and homeownership. This couple really did it right. If the man payed 10-20k mehr this would not have been possible.

we gotta realize it’s not feasible asking a man making 60-70k for 20k mehr, just build something together!

Xalimos are only single/marrrying out only because the number of eligible bachelor faraax (educated religion dhaqan) looking to get married is extremely low, and the ones available either go home 80% of time or marry some other xalimo leaving them single
