That was in the past due to slavery and being mentally brainwashed. Black communities no longer do that. Somalis might not think darker skinned people are unsuitable for marriage, but they sure as hell prefer lighter skinned people for marriage especially the men. Are you telling me the epidemic of Somalis running off with ajanabis for cheap as chips meher has nothing to do with self hate or any kind of inferiority complex? :mjlol:

That's not an epidemic anywhere outside the U.K... hell even there I bet it's exaggerated and vast majority marry Somalis.

Some Somali girls marry ajanabis out of self-hate, but it has nothing to do with their skin colour. It has everything to do with feel ashamed of their somalinimo, A reputation for war, terrorism, pirates, starvation, drug and gun crime and welfare makes a lot of Somali girls just hate the fact they were cursed with Somalinimo. They're trying to escape their Somalihood not their dark skin.

For the last time light skin is a plus on a women for many Somali men, just like a nice nose or nice waist. It's just one feature amongst many. If a dark Somali girl has enough nice features no Somali will even notice her skin colour, whereas in many other cultures her dark skin will be a huge issue no matter what and people will look down on her for it. And as for colourism, please refrain from saying we practise that because in our entire history no Somali has every discriminated against another Somali based on skin colour, so drop it. This colourism thing is an African American term used to describe African American problems.

My grandfather was very very light skinned but married a very dark woman.

This is a great post. It's a shame the sjws on this forum will choose to completely ignore this great post.

Japanese and Chinese are not the same people. They speak languages that are not remotely related at all and have a separate culture & ethnic origins.

Somalis and Arabs arent the same in any sense except religion. And yes people do actually get married based on skin colour. No one bleaches to look cool or hip they do it because they think it's more beautiful. I'm tired of Somalis putting themselves on a pedestal and acting like they don't face the same problems as other communities do. Somalis are too effected by the european standard of beauty just like other races are. It might not have been there a few 100 years ago but it sure is there now.

Somalis and Arabs are related linguistically (Afro-Asiatic) and have since ancient time before Islam cross-cultural influence. Now this doesn't make us same, we are separate ethnic groups/cultural groups. We don't have master servant relationship with them. That is some afrocentric spewel with no root in reality.

First of all every community has their own internal issues and challenges. But you cannot take other groups of peoples experiences and realities & automatically assume is the same case for us.

Now you are saying we discriminate and hold prejudice aka ''Colorism'' which is not true at all. People don't equate skin color to social status. Higher status in Somalia/Djibouti is determined by Wealth and Lineages. You are not going to get any priviliges, jobs oppurtunity, high positions due to your skin tone. Nor are people going to marry you for skin color.

Is the bleaching and this beauty perception a problem? Most certainly, it is ruining the self-image and health of many Somali women. But we should put the problem in correct context instead of misrepresenting it.

This began only after the civil war it is due to the reasons majority’s understanding of beauty has been depicted by the TV in form of Arab, Indian and American shows and commercials such as ''fair and lovely''. There are no Somali/African TV cables or shows in Somalia.

Yes hip and cool, people Somalia believe it is fashionable, no a must, in accordance with feminine grooming rituals to bleach- yes bleach!, That is how it goes.

We have a hue colorism issue in the somali community but im not surprised the men don't see it because it's always the somali women who bring the issue up i've never really seen any somali guy irl have issue with a womens skin tone just these trolls on the internet

Every physical insult Somalis use has to do with features such as sanweyne and Madow. I never seen people insulting dark skinned girls simply for being dark. But if you have Madow features and you're dark, then you're on your own :ohno:

It is the women themselves who hold this issue , impose it and perpetuate it and obsess about it . So why would it be odd for a Somali man who btw is not hyper-conscious about skin color to begin with , to bring it up?

Bantus are a distinct ethnic group. Also, the slurs used against them are about their physical features (wide nostrils, kinky hair) rather than their skin colour.

Do you have a real example that you can share with us?
