I've heard muraayada indaha for eye glasses and quraarad for bottle glasses

Quraarad literally means anything made of glass, windows, bottle glasses etc

some guy actually told me this and I couldn't believe it.
why are are they the same word if they don't mean the same thing

Because anyone with a brain can recognise the meaning depending on the context. "Muraayadahayga ayaan gashaneyaa". "I'm putting on my glasses." Also, glass is usually called quraarad.
