It's a nuclear power plant for energy, it's not for weapon making which is prohibited due to the non-proliferation treaty. They are currently constructing one in Egypt as well.

Somalia is also going to build a nuclear energy plant where Somalia will leverage it's vast uranium deposits for energy production. I have mentioned it before

The federal gov actually signed a deal with a Somali nuclear energy firm not too long ago. Unlike Ethiopia, they’re not handing it off to foreign companies or piling up debt while outsiders take the profits and the citizens are left to shoulder the burden. Instead, they’re building local capacity, local knowledge, and using their own resources. That’s what real development looks like.

They also joined the Atomic Energy Agency last year

And appointed their first nuclear envoy to Vienna, to advance nuclear science

Just yesterday, Fano killed and captured hundreds of government troops. A nuclear power plant seems more like a liability than anything. Let’s just hope they build it far away from the Galbeed and our shared watershed. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Ethiopia, and most African countries to be fair, are way to unstable to house nuclear energy. The chance this will be used for a bomb is near zero like said above. The biggest people at risk are the Ethiopians themselves, a meltdown or improper handling of material could cause both the soil and population to be contaminatid for millenia.

Besides, he gave anyone in the region a nice, big, fat target from the Egyptians to the Eritreans. Lob a bomb from a throwaway drone that doesn't even cost a few thousand, and you've got billions in economic damage and millions of lives indirectly harmed.

One final thing, if the west can wrangle the Egyptians and Saudis to not be allowed to build a nuclear bomb, there is no chance at all that Ethiopia would ever be allowed to acquire anything near a bomb.

if a lot of the economy is based on diaspora or migrants breaking bread then we are obviously in trouble

Not true

According to a UN/World Bank study, in 2017/18 remittances accounted for only 6% of mobile money transaction value.

Mobile money represents over 90% of all transfers in Somalia, valued at about $2.7 billion per month , roughly 36% of GDP. That means remittances are around 2% of the economy

That's because from 2012 their importance fell dramatically:

''However experts acknowledged that the role of MTO in the economy has been declining since 2012 due to the return of many Somali Diasporas , and increase in the production of the domestic economy as result of new investments from both foreign investors and Somalis.''

You can see this in another 2020 survey . Remittances played a very small role for most peoples incomes. It's only like a small portion like 3-14% of their income in most places so by and large when its received its treated as a supplemental income.

Households mostly relied on wage labor or small businesses.

Overall only 8% of rural and urban population counted on remittances as their main source of income.

26% of rural households rely on agriculture and fishing and 16% rely on small businesses.

Most diaspora money coming in isn't remittances at all. It Is direct investments into various sectors as this survey from a few years ago managed to find and distinguish.

The diaspora for years now have functioned more like FDI(investors) in actuality and not a lifeline keeping people afloat.

Thanks to their return and investments, about 92% of Somalis support themselves through wage labor, business, agriculture, or fishing. The majority of the population is economically active and self-sustaining.

If Somalia’s real GDP is closer to $90 billion , as mobile money estimates from 2018 suggest that captured the informal activity, then the 1.4 billion remittances are only a small fraction of the economy.

Ethiopia has had a head start, but at the end of the day, they are still a landlocked volatile buqti Israeli ally. They use their Christian image to the fullest, and they still have a terrible gdp per capita.

People will see stuff like this and genuinely believe Ethiopia will fall and Somalia will rise. Mental illness
The fact you said ‘People see stuff like this’ proves my point . Ethiopia’s whole development model is built on PR stunts and flashy mega-projects around Addis, almost always funded by foreign loans or piling up debt. And yet, none of it translates into real material benefits for the average Ethiopian citizen.

Now compare that to Somalia. I just shared news about the nuclear energy deal , do you know what the major difference is?

Somalia’s progress is happening quietly, from the bottom up. Blue Economy, renewables, housing, aviation, agriculture, finance, health, education, trade, all being driven forward by Somalis themselves, for the Somali people. No debt traps, no foreign gimmicks. That’s what real development looks like.

I find alot of the old posters so fascinating, they literally sit around and fantasize about somali peoples destruction, I have a feeling I know why lol but its so fascinating

This is the true mental illness. Hope they find a cure for it , if not Somalia and Somali people will just be a permanent agitation edged into their brain that will continue to consume their time and energy.
