Somalia World Bank development funds distribution should be based on population not federal states

Lower Shabelle region alone is close to the populations of entire Jubbaland & Puntland federal states. With that in mind PM Khayre was correct to block the unfair distribution.

Lower Shabelle = 1,200,219

Jubbaland = 1,360,633

Puntland = 1,471,141

Logical move. Resources should be distributed based on population size, and not on political bickering

Yep. For example Lower Shabelle makes up roughly 10% of Somalia population, that is what that region should get then in terms of aid & development funds.

Where did you get the data set from. I've been looking for Somalia demographics.

@Bohol how does lower-shabelle represent 10% of Somalia population, yet not have 10% of the armed forces? you dreaming and prolly looking for a kuul carre to adopt among them minority clans? @Samaalism notice bohol key interest in the minority heart-land region, his up to his old tricks again.

Lower shabelle is over-exagerrated in population, where are your soldiers if your so damn large population wise? UNFPA isn't even a census, it's an estimation done by the UN, not even a proper university even endorsed it as an estimation.

Besides infrastructure investment isn't done on population size but done to assist growth where 'economic activity is happening' you don't even understand economics bohol, let habar awal rule u, it's prolly best for ur clan interest. What sort of economic activity is happening in lower shabelle, BEGGING, you want us to throw 100 million into a region that will generate more beggers?

@Bohol according to your brilliant economic logic, you will ask funds to be allocated to population size, however you won't prove how those funds will generate economic activity. There is no point using foreign money into areas that cannot produce an economical return. Lets say Somalia lays down 100 roads for lower shabelle, it will just mean 1000 beggers now got a road to beg on because this region is REGIONALLY POOR, how the f*ck do u sell this economic message to the world, forget lower shabelle, maybe baydhabo has stronger economical case.

I can see why @Samaalism isolates your ass from politics, you will probably send all Isaaq to hell with that sort of thinking. Voting is based on population or district, not economic distribution that's based on pure RETURN ON INVESTMENT. Infrastructure should go to areas where the locals are rich, business activity is happening, diaspora participation is high, local participation is high, they have a sound govt and sound economical direction, why would u not dump money into these areas over lower shabelle where the economic activity past time is to be maids, farmers, and beggers?

What does Puntland generate? all federal states in Somalia are aid dependent with a bit of tax revenue from ports built by former Siad Bare government.

Firstly these population estimates aren’t actually real, Lower Shabelle’s population has been depleted and most of the inhabitants are in IDP camps in Mogadishu. Secondly, JL and PL didn’t complain when Hirshabelle and Mogadishu got a $200 million aid funded highway and not counting the billions of dollars Turkey spent in Mogadishu. So why complain when the World bank does an infrastructure project in places that have been historically neglected comparatively?

This seems really ridiculous.

All population density maps indicate the estimations are near correct for that region due to high population. The difference is the World Bank is in the name of Somalia irrespective of politics were's what Turkey & Qatar do is politically motivated they don't even operate in Jubbaland, Puntland and other mamuul goboleeds for most of the time, so surely they can't be expected to invest there?

The world bank said they would include the other states in the next phase, they likely weren’t chosen in this stage due to not having a functioning government. How do you do a capacity/infrastructure project in the epicentre of Al Shabab?

The World Bank made a decision based on the current circumstances, they obviously don’t care about clan politics hence the project continuing to go forward.

Much of Lower Shabelle is actually free from Al Shabab including Merka & Baraawa. They do have a functioning local government after all they are part of South West. As for the World Bank it was not a fair distribution regardless of the current circumstances hence why the PM had to interfere, they should have consulted better with the government first.

How can Somaliland be 3 million when Somaliland voter Registration shows each habar is 100k. Yeah nice try, satellite images won't get u population. SL voters are only 300k in Isaaq, yet the region claims a whopping 3.5 million, where do these 3.5 million come from when we know your 18-70 bracket clan numbers is 300k?

@Farm malmahan @Bohol waa kacsan yahay, lakin hadi wax laga baran laha waaba arin fican, he just recycles the same estimates done by HAG based Mogadishu heritage group.

Also, part of the purpose of the project is to strengthen local administrations and help them learn how to manage money and develop their areas.

Last I checked, the local administration in Lower Shabelle is Al Shabaab.

@Farm baydhabo is the capital South west and lower shabelle is a region they need to develop their capital first before other regions, they got more then they're fair share, in-fact it will be waste in my opinion, as it will generate more begging from what I foresee, they are not rich region whatsoever they come to PL to make their money, no matter what u invest there, not much will change for them

Puntland (Harti) + Jubaland come out to ~ 30% of Somalia's population. In land area, Puntland (Harti) and Jubaland are about 47% of Somalia's land mass. Comparing these states to Lower Shabelle makes no sense. Lower Shabelle, although twice larger, is better compared to a place like Gedo than to Jubaland as a whole.

Resources kulaha.

What resources?

You mean a share of the begging bowl?

That money should be spent on urgent strategic development projects and it would utterly idiot to split it a million ways.

My clan's planned airport takes priority.

Lame jk aside. We should put it all into JL farms.

100k hectares of farmland fully irrigated could feed a nation of workers and we would avoid future tragic & emberrasing famines
