In my opinion alot somali fathers need to be more involved in the house many have this mindset that their role as a parent is to provide for the family than they done their part you need have a vision of how you want your household to be run and than lead your family towards that goal

The other thing is You cant live in the west and raise your kids like back home cause back home the wife got neighbours family and friends nearby who she can always depend on to help her but in the west most don't live near their family or got any other support so its important they help one another

Somalis were once prized for how many men they killed (historically). It's deeper than that you act like shit is simple, have you ever heard gunshots before and have you ever seen a dead body on the ground before, and have you ever lost friends before. Luckily I was good at school but if you've seen the shit I had witnessed you probably wouldn't sleep for 40 nights. Our parents came from a wartorn country were they witnessed countless murders and all kinds of fucked up shit. Everyone of our parents has lost friends and family. These people then move to the west into bad neighbourhoods. Their children are exposed to a bad lifestyle. Somali boy who joins this lifestyle lives in a bad neighbourhood and has an absent father. The mother parents him the same way as she would in Somalia where your whole neighbourhood raises a child. In the west only the mom and dad are responsible for this. If the father had stayed the mom would not have to go work and she could devote more time to the son. Same goes for the father. I wouldn’t necessarily categorize and label all Somali men as being drawn into “ghetto lifestyles” that’s a bit of a generalization in my opinion. As a person that lived that ghetto lifestyle and was affiliated with a lot of ghetto Somali guys. I will say the reality is it’s a very small minority of Somali men (mostly teenagers and early adults age 14-23) That are like this. it all depends on your age, where you live and who you associate yourself with.

I’ve lived in Minneapolis, Colombus and San Diego (US). I can’t speak for reer Canada or reer UK but in those cities that I lived in you had a very good amount of sucessfull somali men (business owners, teachers, college graduates, very educated men, very cultured etc (ages 20’s-30’s) And then you had the average faarax’s (taxi driver, security guards, retail workers, students, people who are trying to better their life’s) (from teenagers age 16-30s) and then you have a very very small minority of Somali men/youth that are Gang Bangers, lowlifes, drug dealers (ages 14-20’s) when it comes to Somali men theirs a very complex diverse blend when it comes to lifestyles but I would say their is more good somali men then bad somali guys.

Good points. All my hindi/chinese/arab friends used to go to all sorts of after'school clubs such as martial arts, swimming etc as well as classes where they learnt their language and culture. They even used to get GCSEs in their language from those classes. We Somalis didn't have any of that. It comes as no surprise most of us ended up as criminals while they succeeded.

Btw, the qamiis and koofiyad is our culture now. We appropriated it.
