It appears real to me. I've actually met Somalis who identify as anything but Somali in the UK.

1. They're usually young, teenagers or early 20's.
2. They were made fun off because of their ethnic background by someone else.
3. They're constantly seeing negative stereotypes which reinforce their beliefs.

They'll grow out of it.

However there does seem to be a very pervasive negative stereotype in parts of the UK (particularly in parts of London) with Somalis. I think thats unfortunate. I'm hoping in the coming years, younger 1st & 2nd generations will slowly chip away those stereotypes.

That's quite lame to be honest. At that age people should grow out of their insecurities and develop their self-esteem. Some Somalis may have had rude words said about their background but also have the harshest rebuttals. That's why so many madows call us anti-black because of the lengths we go to dissociate otherwise from them consequently. I don't buy this victim "woe is me" narrative and I am saying this as a Londoner.
