Sir I was talking about the use of the port before the deal. Bosaaso was free port that wasn't sporadically closed for Ethiopia's needs.

Berbera was expensive and not really free or a 'people's port'.

In regards to the deal Gaas received money and bribed Puntland Parliament with 2 millions to get the deal through Parliament after they did a vote of no confidence against his administration.

That money was to facilitate the deal. He and others would also receive 10-30000 every months for the 30 year duration.

The rest of the 15-30 millions were shared among different people with Gaas getting the lion share the same happened in Berbera.

Sirlance listen to DP World's Chairman it was never about Somaliland or Berbera but rather Ethiopia to increase the traffic and tap into the increased need and infrastructure of landlocked Ethiopia.

DP World was kicked out of Doraleh Terminal in Djibouti.

In certain regards nothing changed in Berbera it was always a client port for Ethiopia which Ethiopia used efficiently.

Bosaaso port on the other hand was free. It wasn't closed for certain individuals and Ethiopia but everyone could trade there. A true people's port.

Dp worlds involvement in berbera had nothing to do with Ethiopia. UAEs main goal is to control every single port in the region and hinder them so that they're unable to compete with dubais. SL being as desperate as they are allowed themselves to be bamboozled

Look at jebha alis location vs our ports. We'd destroy them and they know it

You do know DPW manages ports all over the world To a high standard look at theirs in Tunisia & Senegal for an African perspective.

I've got stuff in / out of Berbera before and after DPW. It's much better now everything is done orderly and properly only thing I hoped for this deal is the price to come down but we'll see

Kingcobra you are partially right that it has to do with other ports especially Gwadar in Pakistan we have a better location.

But why it makes sense is Ethiopia the CEO doesn't go around bushes.

They had multiple objectives take Berbera out so it doesn't compete with their operations hence the 30 year deal which was sold to them for peanut's 10-30 millions on hand.

The other reason being to tap into the lucrative 100 million market of Ethiopia.

Not sold, a management contract. To develop the port not just manage on its own.
Container Terminal slightly bigger than Doraleh
Extended port
Freezing

Estimated value: $400mn

Senegal and tunisia aren't a threat to dubais ports though. Berbera, bosaaso, doraleh, assab and massawa are

If SLs only ambition is ethiopian traffic then you have nothing to worry about but if you want to expand into transhipment during the next decades, good luck.

This is the reason they got the boot from Djibouti on top of corruption

"The Djibouti government says the ports operator deliberately did not develop the container terminal and instead routed transhipments through its Jebel Ali port in Dubai."

Tuugin of the highest order

Sirlance they still took 10-30 millions for the initial deal. This shows you how desperate and corrupt they are.

30 years contract handover management of port and they got 15 millions.

Siilaanyo and some of the facilitatators then will get 30000 per months.

What kind of rip off is that?

Some people don't know a bad deal no matter what. He's right though, that Somaliland has more transparency.

One thing about the Bosaaso deal it seemed about shady assist from the one thing when the news broke and a picture of Gaas signing didn't hear anything else.

I'm trying to see the state of Bosaaso port now
And still looks the same as they took over just about 2yrs ago
