Attack at Somali Port Kills Head of Dubai-Owned Operations


GAROWE, Somalia — Gunmen shot and killed the head of the Dubai government-owned P&O Ports’ operations in Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Puntland on Monday, a local government official said, and the Islamist militant group known as the Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack.

Yusuf Mohamed, the governor of the Bari region, said that two men disguised as fishermen had shot the executive, Paul Anthony Formosa, at a fish market as he was traveling to the port in Bosaso.

Mr. Formosa was rushed to a hospital, where he died of his wounds. One of the attackers was shot and killed by security forces at the scene and the other was detained, the Bari governor said.

“We are behind the operation,” said Abdiasis Abu Musab, a spokesman for the Shabab’s military operations. “We had warned him but he turned deaf ear. He was illegally in Somalia.”

P&O Ports confirmed that an employee working in Puntland had died and that three others were injured in what it called an “incident” at the port, but it provided no further details. P&O Ports has run the port in Bossaso port since 2017, when it won a 30-year concession to expand and manage the facility.

And another thing we've all seen the contract for Berbera port it's value and what is proposed BUT know one has seen P&O document or even understand what's going on and what is proposed.

You've seen the changes to Berbera port less buuq and a proper system in place there's tug boats and a whole bunch of machinery brought in and as we speak those huge cranes are being prepared.

The killed is Maltese who previously worked in Sudan. His company is P&O Ports a subsidiary of PCFC's Dubai government in other words a Maltese working for an UAE Dubai company.

UAE or Dubai is in disrepute itself for their unethical business practises. No one takes them serious.

Dubai is home for the crooks of the financial world who flocked from Western countries to try on their charm and launder money through real estate.

There has been done problems with some people not agreeing. But this is the best deal an unrecognised nation can get, the've already approved efficiency and we're getting a Highway and infrastructural suppirt for this.

The Benefits are economic growth the only thing we need is a government that has the competency to manage it as they're pretty useless now want everything to be donated despite building villas for millions

Great point. He claims that locals are mad at Paul yet it's a refugee from 1000 miles that killed him. Saahid and the killer of Paul have two things in common: they are both outsiders and they both wanted Paul dead.

DP World was kicked out of Doraleh Terminal in Djibouti.

In certain regards nothing changed in Berbera it was always a client port for Ethiopia which Ethiopia used efficiently.

Bosaaso port on the other hand was free. It wasn't closed for certain individuals and Ethiopia but everyone could trade there. A true people's port.

Yes SL govt are crooks but despite hiding some information they still kinda had to show everyone the contract and what the deal was.

Do you have information on the P&O deal you never know maybe they're doing exactly what was agreed for Bosaaso until we know what the deal includes we can't say anything bad about it

What do you mean Bosaaso was free, did money exchange hands.
