Abuse isn't parenting and some parents hit their children due to their inability to control their kids and emotions.

It’s kind of sad. She was probably abused as a child/teen too, it’s like a cycle that’s never ending. He might end up hitting his children too. All the SSpotters that agree with hitting your child, were probably hit when they were younger too. Just because you gave birth to someone it doesn’t mean you’re entitled to hit them.

Hitting your child is proven to not do anything for them other than the fact that they’ll fear you and never learn to respect you. On top of that you’re basically creating a psychologically damaged adult. Anything we go through in our childhood affects our adulthood, Somalis should be mindful of this. Some people, who don’t have patience or empathy, shouldn’t be parents.

This is the key for him if he wants to repair his relationship with his mother. He needs to emphathize with her. Very few sane people would agree that she is justified in doing what she did. But I don't think she's a monster. I'm not downplaying what happened to him, but there's a culture these days of wanting to be a victim and a strong desire to be showered with pity. Unfortunately, pity won't do him a thing except a pat on the head and some temporary warm feelings inside.

He needs a therapist to let all that toxic stuff out. Then he needs to repair his relationship with his mother. She crossed the line but I don't feel she crossed the rubicon i.e the unforgiveable line. You can use your imagination to figure out where that line is as I won't get into it here. Empathy is the starting point for resolving all disputes. Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of Somalis who don't possess this and it's a testament to why our country is the way it is.

Everyone gets beat up except whites. My dad use to beat me up with a belt. I never believed in beating kids. While i love my dad my favorite people to be around and be myself to were adults that never beat me/yelled at me.
