why is my opinion on what i consider an adult in 2017 relevant to what was considered an adult more than a millennium ago?

This is exactly my point, Why is there a discrepancy in terms of what is considered "adult" or what is considered morally reprehensible between 2017 and the 7th century? Isn't Islam's values supposed to be universal for all time

ur assuming 9/12/15 year olds were exactly the same as they are now, which is odd. we're talking about almost 1500 years ago

shit even a couple of generations ago even in the developed west, a teenager was a straight up adult that supported families. we were discussing this in another thread, but now even 20 year olds are straight up ciyaal (no offense if ur 20 doe)

listen...the prophet isn't an ordinary person, he is supposedly the epitome of morality, a model human whose every action is considered a sunnah to follow. some 9 year olds are extremely mature while as you said 30 year olds act like brain dead ciyaal mama. But maturity doesn't mean its okay. thats the point the somali guy in the video made. Do you believe its okay?

Islam simply says the person has to be adult. it doesnt give a number...that's just something we're projecting onto it

there's no magic number to being an adult. i guess there's a ballpark figure, but that varies with the times and conditions. life now compared to life in the ancient arabian desert i imagine is extremely different. same goes for life now compared to life in medieval England for example. shit, even 200 years ago things were drastically different in North America. it's really not beyond the realm of possibility that people matured at different rates too...in fact i think it would be foolish not to make that assumption

i think Islam is on the right side of this issue, by not giving a specific age. as long as you're an adult of sound mind sounds good in any era of time

like i said u guys keep focusing on the age. 9/18/30, it dont matter because she was considered an adult at the time. similarly, Muslims who use that as an excuse to marry 9 year olds today because the Prophet did are just as wrong. there are no 9 year olds that are adults today period

Scholars are divide on this matter as countless hadith go against one another , Some say she was 14 others she was 19 , and some 9.
