Should the minority languages in Somalia be given recognition for protection & be kept alive by the law or should they be eliminated by encouraging every single person to only speak Standard Somali inside & outside the home & let the minority languages die off?

Languages like Garre, Bravanese (Swahili dialect), Mushunguli & Tunni will most likely go extinct by the start of the next century if nothing is done to keep them alive. As for Af Maay, it has a fighting chance since there are media outlets that regularly use it & its widely spoken in the South.

Why would you ever want to encourage the death of a language?

I have never heard a crazier idea.

Just curious to know if people think it's worth preserving the minority languages back in Somalia.

100% it's worth preserving. I wouldn't even seek people's opinion on this because anyone who thinks otherwise their whole life isn't worth preserving so their opinion doesn't matter.

Remember reading wikipedia and then listing Somali as "languages" and nlt "language". Makes sense now

I heard there’s 2 different type of af garre, one that’s more authentic and another that’s closer to oromo, I think @Apollo can explain it

We must preserve both the ethnic and linguistic diversity of Somalia. Bantus should get positive discrimination and representation in parliament.

They’ll most likely die out like most unwritten languages, unless some outside group takes interest in them.

The Somali language itself is probably also at risk comparatively to other written languages, since this current era that will not be named, and hopefully be erased from our collective memories in the distant future, obliterated whatever was accomplished of the literacy rate.

Swahili is a written language. :gnzbryw:

About Somali part, just because Somalia waa hellhole does not mean my language die kkkk. Other Z00mali exist (Djibouti, Z00maliland, Z00mali region of Aidstopia).:)

We live as well, Z00malia might die but we live on god willing. Except Z00mali region because Oromo. ;)
