What does the average Kenyan Somali in Garissa who never stepped foot in Somalia think about this dispute? Do they support Kenya/Somalia or kinda split?

Majority of Somalis no matter their diaspora support Somalia, kinda like jews and Israel, German Turks and Turkey, etc.

They have the sovereign right to sign these papers and get into production agreement with foreign countries.

Even if Somaliland found 200 billion barrels of oil they'll still need Mogadishu's approval for foreigner companies to come and set up the platform & logistics.

We both know that's a different ballgame. Berbera happened because it aligned with UAE & Ethiopian intrest. The previous government had no objections to Berbera port when the terms came out they made a big deal of it and denied the deal.


Oil is entirely a different ballpark and has long term implications on the geopolitics of the region. No company would risk drilling for oil without international support.

Sadly that's where the politicans wants to be voted back to office so they will do what ever it takes but I'm sure that this would not end up being a broader conflict, nobody is interested in that in a region with threats such as Al-shabab.

I believe that within the next 5 years SL will gain formal recognition from at least some countries that are eyeing up economic opportunities against our wishes unless we can broker a solution that leads to reunification

Very unlikely. SFG are pleased with current arrangement keeping Somaliland in limbo and paying off it's 40 something MPs.


In the future if Berbera corridor generates enough trade and revenue they may have some leverage or even start their own oil producing company. Considering the calibre of Somaliland politicians that's a very unlikely development.


Besides Genel E energy has been dragging it's feet for well over a decade now they haven't drilled any exploration wells so far. Chances are they either found something or low in cash and thinking of dropping Somaliland all together like they did in Morocco.



Who knows what could happen in the future but there are very few countries around the world willing to take heat in favor of Somaliland.
