Does anyone know how Kenyan Somali's generally feel about the maritime case?

What does the average Kenyan Somali in Garissa who never stepped foot in Somalia think about this dispute? Do they support Kenya/Somalia or kinda split?

Majority of Somalis no matter their diaspora support Somalia, kinda like jews and Israel, German Turks and Turkey, etc.

Kenyans having their own fkd

They have the sovereign right to sign these papers and get into production agreement with foreign countries.

Even if Somaliland found 200 billion barrels of oil they'll still need Mogadishu's approval for foreigner companies to come and set up the platform & logistics.

Like they sign off the Berbera port and Berbera Corridor.... :drakekidding:

We both know that's a different ballgame. Berbera happened because it aligned with UAE & Ethiopian intrest. The previous government had no objections to Berbera port when the terms came out they made a big deal of it and denied the deal.

Oil is entirely a different ballpark and has long term implications on the geopolitics of the region. No company would risk drilling for oil without international support.

These Madows acting like they're Russia or something, the way they talk down on us, like sit down, you're just another shithole, one that's enslaved by China too :mjlol:

Not only did they have objection, they were strongly against it, the president, the prime minister and the parliament even band DP World from doing business and it happened without their consent.

Even the DP World CEO told them to take a hike..

The world sees Somaliland as an autonomous region, if Somaliland had de jure recognition and the ICJ had ruled a disputed land/sea in favor of Somalia then we would have the same situation as Kenya and Somalia today.

You are giving the government power it don't have, they are a paper government and a lame duck. Not only have Somaliland given exploration rights for several inland blocs but you will in the not so distance future see a billion dollar oil deal in the likes of the Berber deal...

I noticed all the kenyan lawyers and brilliant legal minds accepted the courts decision as final. I hope the politicians listened to them :)

Sadly that's where the politicans wants to be voted back to office so they will do what ever it takes but I'm sure that this would not end up being a broader conflict, nobody is interested in that in a region with threats such as Al-shabab.

I meant the government of HSM who had worm relations with UAE. The deal you made was in 2016 not '18

The deal was signed in maj 2016, 8-9 months later Formaggio came to power and was against the deal from the get go - but regardless the deal went ahead anyway...

We never know if HSM signed the papers or not but what we know is that his government was alright with the project. According to UAE FM Anwar Gargash who said we had prior understanding with HSM.

DP deal was back by UAE & Ethiopia. Oil extraction needs billions of dollars no country is willing to risk such funds in breakaway region that it's sovereignty recognized under Somalia.

They don't need to risk anything if they recognise it :mjlol:

You are moving like as if Somalia is like China in which CCP sovereignty and mandate to rule China is indefinite as they have the economic and military power to do so.FGS is a paper state that the international community founded, protect and fund till this very day. That sovereignty over SL can be taking away anytime and there is nothing you can do about it.Would FGS go to court over SL? That's suicide :drakelaugh:

What's even more ironic is that the British government yesterday announced that it will invest millions in SL regardless of it's legal status.

Invest in already existing port infrastructure. Not outright extract it's resources without Somalia's approval.

That's how it works in our world today. Go ask Taiwan or Kenya they might be inclined to help out god knows no other country is willing to jeopardize it's relations with Somalia for a breakaway enclave.

@Kanan I get where you are coming from but from our side as reer koonfuur surely there comes a point that the situation of waqooyi remaining in practice separated from us can no longer be ignored and would need to directly addressed ASAP. I believe that within the next 5 years SL will gain formal recognition from at least some countries that are eyeing up economic opportunities against our wishes unless we can broker a solution that leads to reunification

Very unlikely. SFG are pleased with current arrangement keeping Somaliland in limbo and paying off it's 40 something MPs.

In the future if Berbera corridor generates enough trade and revenue they may have some leverage or even start their own oil producing company. Considering the calibre of Somaliland politicians that's a very unlikely development.

Besides Genel E energy has been dragging it's feet for well over a decade now they haven't drilled any exploration wells so far. Chances are they either found something or low in cash and thinking of dropping Somaliland all together like they did in Morocco.

Who knows what could happen in the future but there are very few countries around the world willing to take heat in favor of Somaliland.

Jeopardise a relationship with a paper state aid dependant Somalia? Stop thinking Somalia sovereignty and territorial claim will remain indefinitely as if you are CCP :mjlol:
