Not true when it comes to the overall success of a family. I know at least 5 families on the top of my head that I know very well. All the daughters doing well, educated, oldest son banged up or doing shady activities, younger sons tend to be better due to stricter parenting.

My dad was so strict to me that I never went outside alot only time I went outside was playing ball,school, Gym. My dad never went to the local cafe with all somali uncle. He was always with us. That lead me to have a degree in electrical engineering with 3.9 gpa. If my dad was not with us I would end up in jail lol.

Is there truth to this?

I've personally seen this in real life. A Somali girl I went to school with ended up going to a top uni in the UK while her older brother (1 year age difference) ended up going to prison for drug dealing.

I've always wondered how this was the case. How did two siblings (male and female) both grow up in the same house with same mother and father, one ends up in prison or the streets and other ends up graduating from university pursuing a high paying career. How does this happen?

It makes more sense for a man to be independent and to take more risks it’s not a surprise most of us Somalis in the west grew up in the worst areas when your a kid you don’t see no doctors or people who go uni all you see is drug dealers making money it ain’t a surprise that a lot of Somalis turnt to crime

Somalis like too make it gender based in my own experience. Somalis from two parents household who received love & attention as kids tends to be succesful in deen & life no matter the gender. Meanwhile the one’s from dysfunctional homes boys & girls are the same. They just tend to revolt in different ways, one in the street harming others and the other turning into a ciyaal suuq ( hurting herself ).

Who remember the religious faraax who was giving dawah to his ciyaal suuq sister and she put it all over the net? All in all they just show their dysfunctionality in different ways.
