"Sub Saharan" is not a merely geographical term . It has a far more profound and political meaning . This term has only arrived onto the mainstream lexicon in the last 40 years .That is an interesting theory maraq but it remains to be unproven. However the term sub saharan is not a term of dehumanization (also an interesting word u used), it’s just geographical. We always had contact with neighboring ethnic groups who we lived by perhaps thousands of years (as Cushitics), our ancestors were not from some secluded island but actually were nomadic pastorals who traveled great distances and intermingled with different groups all over Eastern Africa.
I think it’s time we as a nation admit that maybe we have an indentity issue. Furthermore , countries that are considered Sub Saharan category have huge populations and cities in the Sahara . The great Malian city of Timbuktu is apparently part of Sub Saharan Africa even though it sits right in the Sahara ? Mauritania is a sub-Saharan Africa according to some
Suugo scientists . Then you have Niger and Sudan , both of which have significant populations in the Sahara . Great geography , eh ? You are going to tell the Tuaregs of Mali that they are Sub-Saharan Africa , but that their brothers in Libya are not ? What a load of nonsense . The Sahara was a conduit for linguistic , political and economic relations for people in Africa , not a barrier , as these Suugo Scientists want to claim .
