5 military bases+this Turkish deal. Well done president

That is the land and maritime zones covered, now the sovereign air domain needs to be permanently secured as well, both the military and the commercial, through a similar aviation deal. A 40 / 60 deal between Turkish Airlines and Somali Airlines, that would see the latter restored to its old glory, and a 30/70 airspace deal with the Turkish Air Force that reconstructs the Somali Air Force to a capable air power would transform Somalia’s capacity to a NATO-tier military within a decade.

I was cautiously sceptic about Somalia’s near future ability to ensure a well-secured oil-industry but not anymore.

Just as I expected this agreement was brought to the attention of both houses of the parliament just this morning prior to it being ratified.

Surely details of this agreement would have been leaked to the media prior to today if they were notified of it beforehand. No consultation and debate, no amendments proposed. Gurguurte presents the agreement in a closed door session (not open to the media or even televised) in front of the joint session of parliament in which it's agenda wasn't even stated beforehand. They do a raise of hands in favor of the deal and with only three objections, voila the agreement is ratified!

What type of country is this? :damn::francis::damn:

Holy shit it was a hand vote

"It is indeed very unfortunate that Somali Federal Parliament approves a Defense & Economic pact between #Somalia and Turkey without even reading the pact & obtaining the original copy . Today's endorsement, which was not done in the right channel, is against the bylaws of both houses of our Parliament. Our national laws clearly define that the international and bilateral agreements in which our government is involved or enters with another party to be distributed to the MPs beforehand so as to deliberate its content, understand deeply of all provisions and then democratically vote for it . As a Member of the Parliament I voted against the terrible endorsement of the so called pact today since there was no written document distributed to the members of the Parliament"

Lol over 200 members of Parliament voted for this without even reading the deal. Only three voted against because they actually wanted to know what the hell they are voting for.

Somalia is truly something else.
Bro those 3 adheers and eedos are gonna turn up missing if it actually was a hand vote

What a joke

I wouldn't trust the UAE for anything. Especially seeing their involvement with what is happening in Sudan. Folks should be cautious about any and all foreign forces providing any help, whether it's Turkey, UAE, USA or UK. All of them are out for their own gain and this is to be expected
In Puntland they did many good things.

I understand your frustrations, but institutions are built through knowledge transfer and capacity building, they don’t pop up through immaculate conception. Turkey has a concrete track record of upgrading Somalia’s capacity in multiple sectors, and will continue this trend with regards to Somalia’s navy and coastguard.
Only we see them in South Somalia.

No, because Pakistan has no track record of delivering real concrete results like Turkey, even the Garacad port was built with the help of Turkish engineers. Turkey also has a major Defense industry, its own mineral and petroleum industry, is a big manufacturing hub for textiles and is an agricultural production giant. These are all the areas Somalia needs to built its capacity in, and Turkey is the right partner.

You have to look at their track record. If not Turkey, then go with China but not a poor neighbour or a country that has a vested interest to make sure your ports will never prosper and your oil never reaches the surface.

Anything is better than the disintegration of Somalia through the MOU or an Ethiopian invasion (naval base in Somaliland). This could even cost more and could harm Somalia more. If Somalia gets protection and if the Somalia will be built by Turkey it’s good

But the exact details about the agreement is not public. Sajid is a Pakistani conflict reporter. He sometimes spreads unconfirmed infos
*if the Somali navy will be built its good

Foreign fishing vessels steal over $300M worth of fish from us every year. Some of these foreign vessels are even causing long term damage to the environment due to unregulated overfishing. If foreigners are already profiting off our sea why not let Turkey profit instead? They’ll bring us something of value in exchange, and it’ll only last for 10yrs

Nothing is free in life, and on the surface this sounds like fair a trade. I just hope they’re not hiding any bad parts to this deal…

Unfortunately their knowledge to operate modern ships has become obsolete, with a completely different set of sensors and processing systems in Turkish ships compared to the old Soviet era ships. Though they would make great senior advisers to bridge the gap in cultural norms and traditions between the Old Navy and the New Navy.

It would be a nice gesture to give them a monthly pension-like payment for their advise and past-service.

You know this example is bad because you had to double both the revenue and length of time 🤣
30% on 10yrs is a reasonable cut, 60% on 20yrs is the type of arrangement given to the losing party of a war.

Turkey is arguably a top 10 navy in the world, and has developed their own petro industries, along with it being clear with the military cooperation between fgs and turkey that turkey is looking to help somalia in the long term, not for free.

Did you see earlier in the thread s1 posted that pl wouldnt be included in this? Tbh it sounds like fake news, but say pl coast isnt in . Would you still feel some way about this?

Wallahi you got me with this one good bait

Paranoia and Qabil politics aside I think this will benefit Somalia in the future. A strong navy is urgently needed and with no homegrown industrial or defence infrastructure we will be forced to look outwards. 10 years is a short time in the end it can always be cancelled if things go sideways.

Turkey has made significant advancements in naval technology and development and their defence industry is looking for future partners and customers. It's a win win in my opinion.

They usually get a warning to not come, so yes they’ll turn up missing. But if they insist on coming they’ll be killed unfortunately.
