So question do you really think PMPF is a navy
Watch your mouth waryaa, PMPF is a professional navy. They’re ranked 4th globally in the 2024 military index’s. The more you know.

Piracy off the coast of Puntland has been largely eradicated. Maybe the Turks can build a military base in Ceelbuur and Galhareeri so your kinsmen can free themselves from the shackles of Al Shabaab.
Pirate capital Puntland has no say about other regions ninyohow, you gave us bad name, founding father of piracy. Somalia is solely known as piracy because of your state. Iska amus

Honestly 10 years is surprisingly short span of time. The Turks will park themselves on the coast and chill for a majority of that time. I just hope that the recruiting of navy forces will be substantial and that we get a good marine vessel. Piracy isn't a issue but illegal fishing is and we need to stop that business asap.

Let's clarify the terms of the agreement: "Turkey is committed to safeguarding Somalia's seas as if they were its own." Is the literal text of the agreement. Over the next decade, our nation will boast the most formidable navy in Africa. While this naval strength is strictly defensive, it does signify that any Ethiopian-built base or ship within the designated area will face Turkish counteraction.

It's essential to emphasize that Turkey isn't claiming 30% of our sea resources for the next ten years; instead, they will receive 30% of the revenue generated. This share is deducted from the Federal Government of Somalia's (FGS) portion of sea revenue, ensuring that the revenue stream for the Federal Member States (FMS) remains untouched.

Why is this arrangement not as detrimental as it may seem? Our maritime resources are vastly underutilized—Somalis scarcely consume fish, let alone crustaceans or seaweed. Effectively, we have granted the Turks a stake in our maritime resources. This incentivizes Turkey to invest significantly in Somalia's maritime sector, benefiting the FMS first, followed by the FGS, and finally, the Turks.

For the Turks point-of-view, they want to grow the pie to maximalize revenue. How do they do that? Firstly, give investors and international partners the cold hard agreement that you will patrol the seas and pacifiy any aggresive Ethiopian or terrorist activities in the sea.

For them it's like buying Apple shares back when it was 0.04$ a pop.

A notable aspect of this deal is that Turkey will not only train our navy but also provide proper equipment, transforming it from a coast-guard-tier force into a fully equipped navy. This collaboration holds the potential to elevate our navy to a green-water navy, marking a significant enhancement in our maritime capabilities.

They just went full retard with this and actually sold the sea.

Somalia is in no position to build a navy. The idea it could even manage a fleet is laughable.

I used to think Somalia wanted Somaliland for it's resources or for cynical control but now I'm beginning to believe they are just retarded. They are high on some five pointed flag.

We are in a union with actual retards. Forget Somalia just focus on your lives wherever you are and be the best citizen you can be.

Bro, we don’t sell the sea, we are paying a country via revenue we don’t actually make at the moment for a navy that will help us make revenue.

it’s so mutually beneficial, we have billions sat at the bottom of our oceans and billions more dollars swimming about.

if you would prefer keeping 100% of probable negative revenue rather than 70% of potentially billions than please stay the f*ck away from my country. You are not invested in our growth or development.

We literally have the biggest coastline and it’s already getting r**ed by all kinds of ajanbi’s but the one that says he will make sure we eat too from it is the one you have a problem with.

Wallahi we are our own worst enemies.

Think about what those resources mean:

1) the government budget double and quadruple before the deal is up

2) that money can be invested in further recourses extraction with in the country (uranium, gold maybe even potash, one of the most exported minerals due to its fertilising effects)

3) funds for our own airforce

4) defeating Al-kabab through purchase of heavy weapons

5) public functions and institutions can be better funded.

6) millions a year dollars and thousands of new jobs created via the fishing and mining industry

I could carry this list on, but all I need to say is the options are no revenue from the ocean or 70% of the revenue of billions (whilst the other 30% is literally paying for the navy that enables this)

This is obviously a checkmate if you are a proponent for a strong and resurgent Somalia. People have gotten so used to the status quo, that it will take time to adjust for them. Piracy is dead, charcoal trade is dead, the MOU is dead, illegal fishing is dead. Turkey backing Somalia is like the United States backing Europe after WWII, and this deal was clearly already on the table at the time of HSM taking office since the Turks have been training Somali naval officers for the last 5 years;

A bunch of cadets on a boat is not a navy. Somalia has no institutions dummy. It's like saying you are going to run a marathon with broken legs.

They build PMPF and we had great relationship with them. Puntland benifit from UAE.
I wouldn't trust the UAE for anything. Especially seeing their involvement with what is happening in Sudan. Folks should be cautious about any and all foreign forces providing any help, whether it's Turkey, UAE, USA or UK. All of them are out for their own gain and this is to be expected

I understand your frustrations, but institutions are built through knowledge transfer and capacity building, they don’t pop up through immaculate conception. Turkey has a concrete track record of upgrading Somalia’s capacity in multiple sectors, and will continue this trend with regards to Somalia’s navy and coastguard.
