This knee jerk response is typical for people who put up a charade acting like they care about women’s issues when in reality they couldn’t be bothered at all.
Do you know that somali women are among the most racially profiled women over fgm? Where parents are regularly harassed & wrongly arrested, their children taken away all due to the whims of prejudiced & racist public servants.
In some cases young girls were forced to undergo physical examination to prove that they weren’t muitilated. The girls were born & bred in these countries & had never traveled back to somalia .
In sweden a couple of years back the cultural minister took part in an event where she was cutting a cake that was shaped into the form of a naked black woman. At the head of the cake was the artist who would scream every single time someone took a slice. The artist said he created the art to highlight the problems of racism & female circumcision

Two of the four madhabs necessitate as fard and it's considered as part of Islam by the ijma of the fuqaha. It's like other obligations in the religion which Allah and his prophet have ordered us to perform. We don't search for their benefits and risks, just do as we are ordered. What are the material benefits of Haj, Zakat or any of the other A'mal that are fard or mustahab? Our minds can't comprehend.

It's fard on the parents. Yes if they don't do(circumcise their children), they are sinning according to the aforementioned madhabs

There are differences of opinions when it comes to Hanbali. Imam Ahmed himself believed It was Makruma rather than fard. Other books I’ve read said that the Hanbalis are of the opinion it’s Mustahab. So it’s rather divided.
Not divided the mu'tamad of the madhab is that it's obligatory
