But Garacad was a jetty port, I’m pretty sure they will want to build a larger port that’s closer in size to the ones in Bosaso or Berbera. Also this deal isn’t just for a port, they are allegedly looking to build a naval base too
The Ethiopian government is very broke right now, idk how they’ll find space to fit this in their budget when they’re already struggling to make debt payments
The people of Awdal are anti-successionists. They will not approve of Ethiopia establishing a naval base and maritime facilities in their port. I thought it would be in Berbera, but Ethiopia already has a 19% stake in Port Berbera. Ethiopia is looking to build a naval base and maritime facilities from scratch.

The deal actually benefits and favors Ethiopia more than Somaliland. Ethiopia gets a naval base, a port, fish, and access to other rich resources situated on the coast. In return, Somaliland gets recognition from a country gripped with sanctions, international scrutiny, and a civil war. Somaliland also has a stake in Ethiopian airlines, and their profit margins often fluctuate. Ethiopian airlines could very well go bankrupt in the coming years.
If the Somaliland government was smart, they would ask Ethiopia to lease them farmland. Currently, Somaliland imports close to 90% of its food. Somaliland should have asked the Ethiopian government to lease them 100,000 hectares of land to grow crops. This would have helped improve their food security.
The Somaliland government should have also requested a significant stake in profitable industries in Ethiopia, like food processing and manufacturing.

Nah its a deep water port ,it can handle containers a jetty is something like Maydh port. Garacad is still in its early phases and construction is still ongoing

Yeah you’re right, thanks for clarifying. I misunderstood what jetty ports were. I thought they were the same as deep harbor ports but just smaller in size

There is no such thing as a mutually beneficial relationship with Ethiopians or otherwise the different ethnic groups of Ethiopia wouldn’t be working so hard to wipe each other off.
Also, you Oromos don’t realise what sort of pandora box you have opened. Forget about getting access to the sea, the future of current Oromo immigrants in Somalia is looking terrible let alone additional immigration. Somalis including those from SL have finally grasped the real threat that you lot pose to us and our country.
For too long, Oromos used to hide behind the miskeen Muslim card to enter Somalia but we have seen too many of you openly claiming our lands and interfering in our affairs. Abiye Ahmed’ arrogant attempt to break up Somalia and Oromo elites on Twitter boasting about this scam of a deal are the icing on the cake.
It’s time for Oromos to leave our country and return to Oromia.
