I don't want to sounf insensitive but women in the west have 0 excuse to be victims tbh.
That is rather insensitive and your not taking into account the psychological aspects of abuse.

Do you really expect an abuser to just tell his male friend or family that he beats his wife? Or for an abused woman to just open up to a random man about possibly the worst thing that's ever happened to her? Women are more inclined to share this information with other women.

No I mean women like you. Who haven't been abused and can speak for those who have.
You can easily educate a whole generation of Somali youth about that kind of shit.

We need to encourage victims of abuse to speak out and use their own voices because it's not my place to share someone else's story. All I can do is correct those who think domestic abuse isn't an issue in our community.
Somali women tend to be build bigger than their husbands. They need to put their men in line. A slap here and there will do.
Look, a woman is an adult. If you're getting beaten by someone like you're a child and you do nothing about it, you are absolutely retarded and proof that women might actually not be as equal as we thought.

The only cases of domestic abuse I've heard are when the husband is a raging alcoholic.
What family would tolerate their daughter being beaten black and blue?
Sxb, have some empathy :siilaanyolaugh:
Some women fear for their lives in abusive relationships.
No you can do far more than that. You can explicitly condemn the act and vouch for the testimonials you've heard (without going in detail of course). If Somali dudes don't witness the abuse and it's kept under wraps how can you expect them to quantify the problem?
We need info. Particularly how a widespread issue like this can be quietly kept hidden when so many of our other issues are on wide display.
You guys are describing what seems to be a cultural link that not only shields abusers but also keeps domestic abuse hidden from the masses. Can't blame ignorant niggas for not knowing shit if we don't get vital information can you?
I'm not trying to be an asshole, I genuinely can't understand it.
Women crying out I love him when he's finally being hauled away by the cops.

Boowe, you're incredibly naive and it makes me wonder how much contact you've had with the Somali community. I've explained why men would think this isn't so widespread, you tend to associate with the culprits. Secondly, it's men who should be condemning this, not me. It's already a given that as a woman, I oppose this vile practice. We need Somali men to come out and say the same but more often than then, they're the ones who think it isn't a big issue ( every woman in this topic so far has said it's an issue, it's the men who are ignorant) or victim blame. I can't definitively say how widespread domestic violence is in our community, but if the abuse isn't physical, it is emotional, verbal or psychological. Abuse has been normalized in our community. Only a man would argue against this.
